Rating: Summary: charismatic Review: I liked this book, because of its humor and understated style. But at times, I wished it had a few more "quaintly impossible" spells. Who knows, I might need something to prevent sea serpent bites some day!
Rating: Summary: Best basics Review: As any other Llewellyn's publications, this book cannot be regarded as a scholarly work on magical herbalism but it can be considered without any doubt as a VERY good and well organised basic book on the subject. For each of the 400 herbs listed are included the following : Folk names of the herb Gender Associated planet Ass. Element Ass. Powers Magical uses (traditional or not)Tables and appendices are also nicely organised and well done. Finally, the bibliography is interesting and very useful too. While it is true that this book cannot rivalled books such as those written by (for example) authors like Mrs. M. Grieve's "A modern herbal" or C.F. Leyel's "The magic of herbs", in the world of what some called "magick", it is probably the best introduction available on the subject. Also one of the three best Llewellyn's books presently on the market (the others being "modern magick" by D.M. Kraig and "Tarot, plain and simple" by Anthony Louis). If asked to describe it very shortly, I would say : "Simply very good"!
Rating: Summary: I keep buying this book! I'm on my sixth copy! Review: It isn't that the books aren't well-made, it's just that I use them until they're dust! I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in magic related to herbs and herbalism. Great book for dabblers and writers.
Rating: Summary: Absolutly wonderfuL Review: This book does a fine job of classifing plants for magickal uses. Most are illistrated, and all show what there coorespondences are. I find I use this book over and over. Also, he uses common names--so everyone will be able to find some of the plants that grow near them in this book.
Rating: Summary: All Encompasing Review: This book is probably the most useful thing any type of harbalist could come across, it's indexes are so compleate that it is impossible to NOT find something. There is a life time or two worth of herbal knowledge trapped within the covers of this book. If you have any inclination towards herbs in any way definitly buy this book.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Herb Book Review: This book gives the scientific and folk names of herbs used in magick and rituals. Detailed and thorough! It is also very easy to look up specific herbs.
Rating: Summary: Exteremly Useful! Review: A great compendium of herbs and their uses...I personally wouldn't want to be without it!!!
Rating: Summary: great resource for the herbal/green witch! Review: I love this book. It is mostly a big dictionary with the magickal properties of different plants, but in addition to this, the first 22 pages is an introduction to the art. It talks about what a magickal herbalist is, The use of timing (if you choose), tools, visualization, an altar, ect. It also has "spells and procedures" which includes enchanting the herbs, making satchets, infusions, baths, teas, ect. I was over all very impressed with the entire book. Also included is the folk names of many herbs, (adder's fork, wool of bat, ect.) It was all very interesting and put into an easy to read format.
Rating: Summary: Cunninghams Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs Review: I found it to be very useful and informative. A must for anyone researching herbs for magical purposes.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: Marvelous book, just what I was hoping for and needing! The information is well organized and as complete as I can imagine needing. The one bone I have to pick, like others, the pictures of the plants are not in color. That would have been stellar! Oh well. Blessings!
