Rating: Summary: Could not have asked for better Review: I am just beginning my journey, and this book has helped me so much already!
Rating: Summary: A great refrence tool for every one interested in Herbs. Review: I Rented this book first at the Library and then I just had to have it. Just about every weed in my yard had a magickal pourpose and this book showed me that. The best this is the drawings of the herbs, they give you a better idea of just what they look like. It even has a key system showing you which herbs are poison. Not everything called and herb taists good on chicken. I just wish there was more on how to use other herbs togeather and the effects on will have on the other. With just one down side this book is a great altar companion.
Rating: Summary: Cunningham was quite the herbalist Review: This is one of those books that you pick up all the time, mine is a little cracked at the binding and some of the pages are 'well-thumbed'. He is often sited as a source for other such books and rightly so. I believe he brought the art and craft of herbs to many who were wanting, and to many more that didn't even know they were wanting. His discriptions are, for the most part, well researched, extensive, and sometimes amusing. I think this book, and many of his others, are a Must Have for anyone even remotely interested in the lore and magic of herbs.
Rating: Summary: not a bad beginning book Review: This book was one of the first magickal herb books I started with and it's great for it's magickal corrispondance of the herbs. I've found many other non-magickal and magickal herb books along the way that would make great additions to this one. I wouldn't say it's the only book or need on magickal qualities of herbs but it's a good start. If your really into herbalism for more than the magickal properties then this one will fall short of your needs. I've found that I've had a combination of diffrent magickal and non magickal herbal books to get what I was looking for.
Rating: Summary: If you ever wanted to know a little Extra... Review: about what is growing in your herb garden this is the place to find it. What a neat book! Herbal Grimores are hard to find and this is an excellent one, but even if you are a casual gardener this book can provide some very interesting background about traditional magical uses for herbs and plants. Check it out!
Rating: Summary: A very good start for those that are into incense making Review: I love this book. Every herb thats used in the craft today are spoken in this book. A book that takes you deeper on how herb work?, why herbs work?, why do witches use herbs?, and what can herbs do for you?. All these questions can be answer in this book. Very well worth your time.
Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: I have learned so much from this book. Anything written by Scott Cunningham is always the best.
Rating: Summary: a reference for all interested in herbal magick Review: Scott Cunningham shows that he was a master of herbal magick. BUT he is wrong with damiana it has nothing to do with the planetary powers of Mars it is related to the planetary powers of the moon. Otherwise his book is very good. I like the fact that he gives a small lesson on magick and how to empower the herbs that one is to use in magickal workings. He also expalins the importance of empowering the herbs to use right before using them in a spell. The reference is very good and loaded with information about many herbs. Also he lists the safety issue with every herb he has listed. This is very important, not all herbs are healthy to use. Like cats claw, it should not be used by those who have had a transplant, nursing or pregnant women. Some people thinks its fine to use herbs on a daily basis, well after a while it can build up toxcity. He lists the magickal uses of these herbs not what to take and how long to take an herb for a cold or something. I find this book to be very useful to me as I work with a lot of diffrent herbs.
Rating: Summary: Great book, but can be confusing identifying plants Review: This is a really great book and source, but the illustrations for the plants got me confused. Some don't even have illustrations at all. If you can identify plants beforehand, then great. The information for each plant is in depth. Don't buy it if it your one and only Wiccan book, though.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have Review: I love this book, I use it over and over again, an would be lost with ot it. The majority of the book is in alphabetical order describing each plant, giving it's attributes and uses. From there it has cross referancing tables of folk and common names. There are magickal use lists as well. Finally, it is indexed at the end which is a grand help. Great addition to every witch's library.
