Summary: It is on CDROM now!
Review: - About the CDROM:

I am very proud of this work. A book is agreat creation, and for those who also have to lug around a laptop computer or would prefer an electronic format, there is a CDROM conveniently included with the second edition of this book. To make the electronic format work to it's fullest capabilities, there are over 1,000 pages of additional cross referenced study material from other McGraw-Hill Telecommunications publications. This gives readers more depth on the material they are referring to and a chance to preview other books. The additional reading material is accessed by clicking an icon beside the definition it pertains to.

Why I wrote this book:

I began writing the material contained in this book because I realized that there was no way I would ever remember every acronym in every sector of the industry that I have worked in. These include service provider, equipment provider/manufacturer, end user, and service vendor. No one else seemed to remember them all either so I began compiling a reference. I have based this collection of terminology on industry standard and de-facto standard terms, and done my best to stay away from unnecessary marketed terms. There are as many marketed terms as there are standard ones, and including them would make the book unruly, and confuse the learning process that is intended to build from it. Though marketed ™ terms are confusing and frustrating for even the most experienced, they are a necessary evil of the telecommunications industry. If a service or product is produced, it is given a name......by every individual company. Every marketed term falls into a category of standard terminology, and those standard terms are defined in this book.

About The Telecommunications Industry:

It is important for companies and their employees to realize that the future of the telecommunications industry is not driven by technology, but by customer service. Even though there is a high demand for technical understanding, the demand is driven by customers that require acceptable service. The recently developed standards and technologies are enabling companies that want to provide high levels of customer service reach more customers faster, and with less capital investment.

Summary: 2ND EDITION IS A MUST HAVE FOR LAN PEOPLE
Review: A long time ago I bought the 1st edition of this book and at the time it was pretty good, since it was the only book you could get with decent illustrations....so I got the 2nd Edition. I have to say that anyone that is getting into voice from the LAN end of the spectrum has got to have this edition (2nd). It is faaaaaar better than the first. I also have the Newton's Telecom Dictionary 17th, which covers more of the frivilous items related to everything, but I find myself reaching for this one more often, mostly because the terms are defined in better detail. If you are looking at getting an updated book for telecom terms, I say try this one.

Summary: Great Reference
Review: After receiving this book/CD in a telecom training class, it has been more usefull than the training class itself. It has more than provided me with all of the reference material I have needed while researching options for a new IP Telephone solution for my company. This is probably the most usefull book I have ever had when it comes to general network references. I recommend it to anyone that is interested in mixing voice and data. Now; if someone could just write a book like this about MEN, all my problems would be solved!!! ;-)

Summary: Telephony ABCs
Review: Covered most of the information needed to compile
an RFP for a new system but lacked some of the
alphabet soup that most manufacturers tack on to
their equipment or software!

Summary: A New Must Have for TrainingCity.com
Review: For years I have been recommending Newton's Telecom Dictionary to students in my TrainingCity.com classes. This year I've added The McGraw-Hill Illustrated Telecom Dictionary & student's love it!

The pictures and the fully searchable CDROm make this book the new "must have" for anyone involved in Voice & Data communications.

Summary: Out of date content! However, good explanation, good CD-ROM.
Review: Good explanation, good CD-ROM dictionary, but sorry for the content, it is out of date, I can't even find these two important acronyms or should I say, two important protocols - ITU (International Telecommunication Union), ETSI (European Telecommunication Standard Institute)

Summary: The Very Best...Good learning Book
Review: I am a manager for a internet access company. I have many books about telecom. This one is the best of them all. The CD included is the best CD I have seen with a book. There are tremendous amounts of pages on anything telecom and network. The pictures and diagrams are important. It is well "illustrated". Its explainations are full and easy to understand. This will teach everything to new people changing in the field and also has advanced reference and detail. I recommend only this book, it is the best. Adam Rashad

Summary: WOW
Review: I am very pleased. This covers terminology I am studying for to get my MCSE, the illustrations are great, and the CDROM is extremely extensive. I wish I had this a year ago. There is no comparison between this telecom study package and any other dictionary or glossary out there, this one blows the rest away!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very Handy
Review: I bought this book about a year ago and I have used it at least once a week in reference to terms. I like having it around, because there is no way I would want to have to memorize this stuff. I am looking forward to a new edition. All people with a telecom/datacom oriented career should have this book.
