Review: This is a real hands-on book written by an author who truly understands how debilitating public speaking fear can be - whether you're in front of a large audience or just trying to speak up at a business meeting in your company. If you think this fear is impossible to overcome - this book is a must read! Between the examples of real-life people who've experienced the fear, explanation of the steps they took to manage and overcome their fear, along with the action steps at the end of each chapter, this book shows you exactly what is required to manage and even overcome your fear. Summary: Not what I expected
Review: This seems more like an AA book for people with deep fears of public speaking. I was looking for techniques and tips to becoming a more effective public speaker. This book dwells too much on the "fear" and "how we are not alone". I read other people's positive reviews on this book and that is why I decided to purchase it. However, I was disappointed to find that it was light on technique. If you are terrified of public speaking and need to come to grips with your fear, then this is your book. If fear is not your main issue, in that you are looking for tips and techniques to becoming a more effective speaker, then keep looking.

Summary: Janet goes Deep and hits the nail on the Head!
Review: To start off with, this book is for people who avoid public speaking situations (presentations/performances/not speaking up during meetings/keeping yourself back from voicing your opinion/avoiding presentations at Uni/avioding subjects that involve public speaking/afraid of promotion at work due to increased public speaking situations etc...). This book is for people who have a phobia of speaking in front of others and want to understand how they can accept, deal with, and conquer this fear (that is shared by LOADS of people worldwide).

If you are one of the above, I recommend this book 110%. I read this book, took notes while I was reading, and did all her Action Steps.

Janet hits the nail on the head and will give you that inner confidence that you need to speak up and voice your opinion whether its at work, Uni, or in your everyday life!

Summary: Critique: In The SpotLight By Janet Esposito, MSW
Review: Written with warmth and compassion for people who suffer from various forms of a social phobia, In The SpotLight hits the spot. While it isn't essential for an author to personally suffer form the topic they teach, it is a real bonus. The author draws on personal struggles and walks the reader through her own process of transformation, using a creative mixture of psychological and motivational techniques. The reader feels empowered by Janet's approach. In addition, the book's format is strategic, providing a concise summary of the key points at the end of each chapter, plus a bonus of doable "action steps" to keep the reader advancing. Janet's book is the next best thing to attending one of her hands-on seminars to help people overcome their fears of public speaking and performing. In The SpotLight is a real testimonial to taking one's disability and reshaping it into one's greatest ability. Janet has the ability to reach her audience in a unique and powerful way.
