Summary: Fills an underserved need for TRULY anxious speakers
Review: So many public speaking books concentrate on pure mechanics, or suggest you gladhand and joke your way through speeches.

That's strange to me. In a world where something like 60% would rather have a root canal, or die, or something-than give a speech, you'd think there would be some exploration of why this is the number two fear after death and illness.

This book is one of just a handful of books that delves into the psychology of speaking fear, and offers an effective and thoughtful path towards learning to be free and open as speaker by concentrating on communicating, not speech giving. It even makes for more powerful, heartfelt and audience-centered speeches.

Ms. Esposito is compassionate and offers her own experience successfully overcoming severe speaking anxiety. Her methods are backed-up by solid science and concrete examples.

Worth every penny!

Summary: It worked!
Review: The best advice I have for you if you want to overcome your fear of public speaking is to read Janet's book, attended her Level I weekend class and follow-through on your action plan that you develop in class. Your anxiety will definitely go WAY down.

Prior to doing that I had read many books and visited many websites. I even enrolled in Toastmasters and had performance coaching. I had only a small reduction in anxiety over the 18 months prior to going through Janet's class.

Why is she so effective? First, she's been there. You can totally relate to her as she describes her experiences. Second, Janet resolved to overcome her problem and tried many different approaches to do so. Her book and class focus on the most effective methods that attack the problem from several directions. Third, you confront your fear in a very supportive environment with others that are in the same boat. The impact of sharing this struggle openly and supporting others is very powerful. Finally, Janet is a inspiration and a great coach. She is totally committed to her mission of helping others get the fear of public speaking behind them.

I highly recommend her book and he class. You can get more info at performanceanxiety.com. Good luck. You can do it.

In The Spotlight offers strategies to deal positively with these stressful demands. Janet's powerful style helps me to feel more capable and to become more successful as I meet these speaking challenges. Janet also offers help for self-improvement far beyond speaking and performing in a style that is comfortable and personal. In reading the reviews of her book on ..., I noticed on the inside flap section the Tony Robbins has endorsed the book. It is impressive to see a nationally known figure endorse this great book. I am slowly gaining my momentum. This is a MUST READ for anyone in this predicament!

Summary: Very sensitively and effectively written
Review: This book is a little gem of wisdom and wonderful ideas that are both fascinating and very freeing. The unique thing about this book is that it really addresses the performer's relationship with the audience in a very candid way. Warm and human with a good dose of realism and LOTS of great practical ideas called action steps...definitely worth reading for anyone who performs in any capacity.

Summary: Overcoming Fear of Singing Before an Audience
Review: This book was a tremendous help to me in not only feeling comfortable in speaking with others, but also in performing before an audience in song. Since reading and "doing" the book, I have had two opportunities to sing before fairly big crowds and I have noticed my confidence level increase and my anxiety level decrease significantly. This book is wonderful in explaining the root causes of performance anxiety, causes you to reprogram your thinking patterns, and provides action steps to becoming free of this bondage. I highly recommend Ms. Esposito's book. If you think you are hopeless, you are not...you will find the freedom to rightfully express yourself in any type of "spotlight opportunity".
