This I say because I used to initiate community projects but would never involve myself in positions that require public speaking. There were many other opportunities I missed in life because of this problem. When I read Janet's book, I was so surprised but also happy to find out that I was not alone in this problem. My problem was identified as related to one of the characters mentioned in chapter three of the book. Through out the book, my problem of public speaking was broken down in a way that I could understand it better. Janet's book has a unique way of making a person to be always in control of him/herself. Deep breathing exercises, relaxation exercises, and many more tips are all helpful ways I learnt to create a calm and resourceful body and mind. This book further makes you identify your source of fear and thereby get rid of it completely. I can now speak with confidence, no more negative thoughts, and many other other things that makes fear to spiral and hence creating tension in my body. Janet's book is a hand book everyone wishing to perform effectively should have. Thanks to Janet, rarely will there be so few who are gifted and wise enough to change the lives of so many, she is one of them. It is my wish that this book be made available to every library around the world so that many people who need this type of therapy may always refer to it. So far, I have not seen it done so beautifully in any book except hers. Many blessings for her unique skills.

That was me. NOW, I'm in control! I went from absolute dread at the prospect of speaking in public to actually VOLUNTEERING! Janet's book provided me with the tools and behavior modifications to overcome this self-limiting, career-crippling fear. Janet describes her personal experiences with overcoming fear, and you KNOW that she has been there. I urge anyone who has experienced fear of Public Speaking to read (and re-read) this book!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of the best "self help" books on the market Review: As a psychologist who specializes in treating people with social phobia and other anxiety based disorders, it gives me great pleasure to endorse "In the Spotlight". This is really a terrific book. Janet Esposito knows her subject matter and is truly an "expert" in the area. Also, her personal descriptions of her own feelings and experiences leave no doubt that she has felt the pain and discomfort associated with performing in public (ie.,being "in the spotlight"). Most importantly, Janet has devised a truly eclectic treatment program. It includes elements of CBT, and interpersonal psychotherapy, while emphasizing the importance of doing homework exercizes ("in vivo" practice). For anyone who takes it seriously, this program virtually cannot fail. Finally, as someone who experienced public speaking anxiety for many years, I have a special appreciation for Janet's work. So much so, that I plan to do some work with her in the near future. Folks, if you have this problem, buy the book, follow the program carefully and conscientiously, and you'll be on your way! Good luck. Dr. Lance Pulver

Review: Dear Reader, Thank you for taking the time and showing interest in my book! I am very passionate about my work in helping people to overcome their fear of public speaking and performing as I once suffered intensely from the fear myself. As a psychotherapist, I was very frustrated that I could not even control my own emotions when it came to speaking in front of groups. About five years ago, I decided I had enough of this problem, and I undertook a massive effort to learn everything I could to overcome my problem. Within months, I was delighted to see my own progress, and over the years I began to help others who also suffered from this fear. As I saw success with others, as well as with myself, I knew I was onto something really valuable. Two years ago, I started a course called No More Stage Fright, to help people work on overcoming their fear in a safe group environment. I have been delighted to see the results people have been getting, and it reinforces my passion and commitment to help as many people as I can to overcome this limiting, and often debilitating problem. My message to you is - you do not have to continue suffering from this problem! I can help you to overcome your fear, as I have helped many others, including myself. You will experience an incredible sense of freedom when you breakthrough the limitations that this fear imposes in your life! Please feel free to contact me via email- I would love to hear from you! Kindest Regards, Janet

Even when I haven't had to directly confront it for long stretches of time, thanks to my genius for avoidance behavior, it's always nagged at the back of my mind. I always knew I was basically well-adjusted, give or take a quirk or two, but, because of this seemingly insurmountable interior obstacle, this hidden limitation I told myself I couldn't get over, a small part of me clung to the idea that there might be something seriously wrong with me. If I gave a public presentation, I reasoned, the secret would be out; the world would know once and for all that I was "certifiable." Rejection, alienation and who knew what other horrible social tortures would befall me? Then I read Janet Esposito's book and attended one of her weekend workshops. My experience of the workshop: It was like being wheeled in wearing a body cast Saturday morning and walking out on my own two feet, with only a slight limp, Sunday evening. As for this book: I've read a fair number of books on social phobia, shyness and so on, and Esposito's is, in my opinion, far and away the best of the bunch. Not only is it the only one that nails the bullseye on this specific fear, but it's also a joy to read - conversational, yet authoritative; concise, yet comprehensive. If you feel like you're going to die at the very thought of public speaking or performing, get this book, go to the workshop [URL] and choose a new way to live instead.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Look No Further! This Is The Definitive Resource Review: For the last six years I have been actively searching through all manner of reference material to help find my way through this very limiting, very common fear. I have found passages in many of these resources that make only a superficial attempt at dealing with the issue. None have had any deep, impactful connection for me. Read this book! Nothing I have read has resonated so meaningfully for me, personally. Also, I believe strongly that all who suffer from this fear have a commonality of experience that will elicit the same response from anyone who benefits by reading it. You will recognize at once that Janet Esposito knows the subject matter: As you read about her experiences in overcoming this fear, you will draw immediate parallels with your own trials. Enormously helpful!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Do yourself a BIG favor! Review: I agree with the many raves posted. In my opinion, this book is, hands-down, the most practical and helpful when it comes to actively overcoming a fear of public speaking--and I have read them all! I did take Janet's workshop, but I found the book very helpful even before taking her class. Anyone trying to overcome any of life's obstacles knows that there is no "magic pill"; Janet's strategy is no exception to that rule. But there are definitely shortcuts, and modeling yourself on people who have overcome a similar problem not only makes the process faster, but also gives the comfort of knowing that you're not alone--there are MANY otherwise competent and stable individuals who suffer from performance anxiety. If you suffer from performance anxiety, do yourself a big favor and read this book. Go the next step and visit Janet's web site at www.performanceanxiety.com. And if you really want to overcome your fear, take her workshop. It changed my life.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Worth a shot? YES! Review: I can honestly say that I was extremely fearful of public speaking. I'm a college student and I gave a speech and was extremely uncomfortable while doing it, experiencing almost an out of body like sensation which made me very nervous. I had to deliver another speech and was searching for a solution to my problem and came across this on Amazon and decided to give it a shot. I read this book in little under a week, and was prepared to give my speech with excitement and no longer anxiety. The only drawbacks to this book is that alot of the exercises I didn't do because they rely on other people to assist you and I was very embarassed by this fear and didn't want anyone to know it. Also, it has many self promotions to her seminar throughout the book. But, some of the excercises and techniques this book has to offer really do work and greatly reduce the fear. Heck, it also motivated me to give up caffeine.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Only for people who get REALLY scared Review: I have always avoided public speaking due to severe panic attacks - to the point where it was negatively impacting my career. I finally resolved to do something about it. I bought 6-7 books on the subject; the only one that really spoke to me was Janet's In the Spotlight. I had a big speach upcoming and was petrified. I diligently read and applied the techniques in Janet's books - I normally would have been petrified, but the big day came and I was able to "manage" thanks to her toolkit! (Actually, I did better than "manage" - I was successful!) My next step was to take her workshop - which I strongly recommend!! If you have serious fear about public speaking, if it is impacting your life or your career, if you are into avoidance to your detriment, RUN, don't walk, to buy this book. (Well, OK, TYPE into your browser and buy this book NOW!!)
