Summary: lot's of info, not much worth reading.
Review: I have read a lot of books on this industry, and respect the authors background and wealth of info, unfortunately he seems to be talking about $75,000 purchases, leases, and clients that most of us will never deal with, and if we did we would probably already know this stuff, (and or wouldn't ask his advice on)
all in all a lot of other mostly out-dated psychology, designed to mostly impress his current clients or his peers or something, (I don't know) but i got nothing out of this book, and make a good living recording music in my small but profitable studio.

Summary: This book is a MUST HAVE!
Review: I received this book yesterday and have had the opportunity to read three chapters so far.

Although I have been through many aspects of the music business over a 13 year period, I have never learned as much in one sitting as I have already with this book.

For anyone entering or managing the commercial end of audio recording/producing, this book is a MUST HAVE! To me, it is worth a thousand times its weight in gold, if not a million times its weight in platinum.

With this book, you can learn how to start up your studio, and operate it successfully and profitably. You can learn how to increase your revenue potential, save money, time and major headaches, make wise spending choices, effectively network, and see your studio through its rough times, to name a few.

And you learn it from one of the world's most successful studio managers, the founder of the legendary Record Plant in Los Angeles, California.

Not for the faint of heart.

I am in no way professionally affiliated with the author or publisher of this material, though I would be if I could be.

Summary: Does not deliver on its title
Review: It is obvious that Mr. Stone took a bunch of magazine columns and tried to link them together cohesively. The result is a hodge-podge of mostly useless advice, dangerously thin on details, and oftentimes redundant. In fact, whole paragraphs are repeated in several subsequent chapters. There is little groundbreaking here; just simple advice you've probably heard time and again. If you know nothing of this industry, this might provide a primer. But if you've been around a bit, there is just too little of any real-world advice that could help anyone run a recording studio effectively or profitably.

Summary: Good Business Sense!
Review: This book offers a comprehensive look at the business side of the music industry. It is a complete study of the various facets of the industry, and if you are a teacher, you can receive a lesson plan for the book.

Mr. Stone's understanding of what it takes to run a for-profit recording studio will attract neophytes and industry veterans alike.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about audio recording. It is a great reference book as well as great reading.
