Summary: This is a Marx Brothers Convention in a book!
Review: A well-crafted collection of photos, facts and tall tales about the comedy team. One of the top books ever on the subject, this volume suffers only in a few areas: 1) It is in encyclopedic A-Z order, but there is no index, per se. 2) It does offer dozens of photos, some very rare, of all stages of the careers of each, but does not have a specific bio on each individual brother. 3) It suffers somewhat from the editorial bias of the author, who includes subject headings you may not really care about, such as "shoes." (?) Other than those minuses, though, it is a really great book, filled with lots of interesting facts and memories. It is like having a Marx Brothers convention in a book!

Review: Actually, I think I saw the sink somewhere in the book too! ;)
It's everything you could possibly want to know about the Marxes. I like the A to Z format, it's very easy to navigate your way through the book. I use it all the time for reference. A well-researched, well-written book. Get this one.

Summary: Good reference book.
Review: I have enjoyed reading this book. It has good reviews of each of the brothers' films (together and solo) as well as behind the scenes information about the films. In addition there are interesting items such as shelfed projects, live shows, wigs, etc. It does suffer from not having biographies of the individual Marxes (although there are multiple informative biographies of supporting players). Also some type of summary table of contents would have been helpful; something that would have grouped the types of entries such as biographies, references to costumes, etc.I received this & the Three Stooges Encyclopedia at the same time. The Marxes encyclopedia is the way it SHOULD be done.

Summary: A MARX BROTHERS MOVIE QUESTION
Review: I have not read the book yet but I have a question about one of their movies that I hope someone can answer. I cannot remember
the movie this skit was in but it was the skit where Groucho, Harpo and Chico are sharing basically a tiny room on board a ship. First the cleaning ladies come in to clean, then the steward delivers food, then the mechanics come in to adjust a pipe valve and finally the room is packed head to toe with all
of these people and they all pop out of the cabin door and spill out onto the ships floor. It is hilarious! Please, someone, which movie is this scene from. It's making me crazy that I can't recall the movie title. HELP!!!

Summary: A fantastic Refrence book
Review: This was a wonderful book, I liked it so much I even read it. First of all it is wonderfully organized. The A-Z system works very well. Second it has alot of interesting infomation andd little known facts. Anyone who wants to know about (or knows about!) the Marx Brothers will love this book!

Summary: While we wait for the dvd's...Bob
Review: Wonderful book full of trivia for even the most expert Marx fanatic. Revised edition is well worth the investment for info such as the butchering of "Night at the Opera"...which is the film with the stateroom scene asked about previously.
