Summary: The best of all books about the drive-in.
Review: As a former drive-in manager, I look for all books about this topic. The Sanders' book is the best I have seen. If you only want a single book about drive-ins, this is it. The historical survey is concise and well-written, and the photographs are dazzling. I especially appreciated the page devoted to the classic Winston Link drive-in/train photo from the Fifties. This will be a great gift/coffee table book for any of your friends who ever went to the drive-in. Other books about the drive-in culture have been rendered irrelevant by the Sanders' work. Congratulations to them.

Summary: Interesting Info
Review: Being a huge fan of drive-ins, I really looked forward to reading this book. The only criticism I have is the sequence of the actual chapter text of the book, and the information inserts that the author has throughout. It is very "chopped" up. Reading the chapter, then turning the page to find there is information pertaining to something else on the next page. The chapter text starts a couple of pages later in some cases, breaking up the continuity. Other than this, it makes for a very interesting read for those who enjoy nostalgia and want to be transported back to a more simpler and fun time.

Summary: The best of all books about the drive-in.
Review: Don and Susan Sanders book captures the spirit of another twentieth century icon that is fast disappearing. Two generations in the US and Australia grew up in the back seat of the family car at the drive-in. The snack bar and playground were just as important as the movies themselves. The American Drive-in movie theatre is beautifully illustrated with images that take us all back to a more innocent time - our childhood.

As a former drive-in projectionist it is very satisfying that a place we all called home is being recognised before it vanishes forever. In Australia each major city has only a few drive-ins left. Let them remain as a link to our past and bring joy to the faces of a new generation in the back seat.

Summary: Back to the Belknap
Review: Don and Susan Sanders have captured the essence of the drive-in movie theatre and packed all of the magic into a really great book. I flipped hamburgers at the now defunct Belknap Drive-in when I was in high school and turning the pages of this time-machine brought back many memories. Forget about multiplex cinemas and theater complexes at the mall. The American Drive-In movie theatre lives!

Summary: Definitive work on a great chapter in American History
Review: Exceptionally well written and thoughful chronology of an American icon. Once numbering in the thousands, only a few hundred remain. Many of the ghosts of the turnpike come alive for the reader who invests the time in this very readable, very attractive book. Show your kids what it was like. Hundreds of pictures. Visit your local drive-in today! It may not be there tomorrow.

Summary: Simply The Best.....
Review: Surprisingly little has been published on this colorful little slice of vanishing Americana. The Sanders' book is richly illustrated and well organized, letting the pictures drive the story. Buffs may seek a bit more statistical information, but there are sidebars aplenty and I daresay that all but the most sophisticated enthusiast will learn something new about this wonderful institution. I cannot wait to see what the Sanders' plan for an encore!

Summary: Great Gift -- Great Book!
Review: The best book of its kind, bar none. Photos are excellent, and it is obvious that the authors really know and love their subject. Anyone who has ever spent an evening at the drive-in would love the memories this book evokes. Anyone who never had the opportunity to participate in the golden age of drive-in movies can experience it vicariously through The American Drive-In Movie Theatre. I've given several copies as gifts -- Everyone loves a Drive-In !
