Summary: Brilliant.
Review: Here's a "text book" that reads with the thunder of a good page-turner. You'll laugh, you'll cry... and you'll learn. Wayne Freedman is a brilliant visual reporter who's managed to translate his craft -- and his love of a good story -- into print. Best of all, if local news reporters follow his instructions, a lot of us will start watching TV news again!

Summary: Bought it as a gift, but read it myself first
Review: I am currently a journalism student at the University of Missouri and this is required reading for all broadcast journalism graduate students. My instructor told the class that this is a "Bookshelf Book" that you should keep and re-read often. I have actually read the book three times and take something new away from it every time.

As the title states, I do know the author. I was a PA at Wayne Freedman's station for a year. I also lived in his market over 20 years and have watched and admired many of Waynes packages. In my probably unqualified opinion, Wayne is the best human interest reporter in the biz. Every story he does has a distinctive style and it is easy to recognize, he has just the right thing to say for every occasion.

To say the least, Wayne has a way with words that this aspiring journalist can only hope to eventually reach. Happy reading.

Summary: Bought it as a gift, but read it myself first
Review: I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who has been a local TV reporter for 1 1/2 years. Even with her wonderful preparation in college and her on the job experience, I'm sure she'll find many of the tips useful in her work.

I found the anecdotes particularly illuminating. I finished the book in a day and a half.

It is a perfect holiday or graduation gift for the beginning or aspiring journalist. Freedman is clearly at the top of his field, and it is a great opportunity for young journalists to learn from him.

Summary: Havn't Read the Book, But Know the Man.
Review: Well, as I stated in the title, I havn't read the book, because it isn't out yet. But I do know th author. I am PA at ABC7/KGO-TV in San Francisco, where Wayne Freedman has worked for the past 11 years. For the record, I have also lived in this market all my life and have watched and admired many of Waynes packages.

I have bought this book and it is already on the reading list for many journalism schools. That should speak for its self. Happy reading.
