Rating: Summary: Can't wait to get it! Review: Hi,my Dad got me this book a couple of days ago and it's now shipping to me.I just wanted to tell you how excited I am about getting this book!
Rating: Summary: Very good Book Review: I bought this book and I think it is one of the best books that I own. It tells you everything that you need to know, or want to know, about the James Bond world. It has characters, locations, cast, villians, heroes, etc. I think this book is very good.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: I think that Steven Jay Rubin shows great intrest in 007, with this A-Z encyclopedia of the worlds greatest secret agent.
Rating: Summary: From First to Worst Review: JUNK. What used to be the best 007 reference book ever has been ruined by the COMPLETELY ASININE way the entries are now organized. Not worth the paper it's printed on anymore.
Rating: Summary: Best Bond Book Yet Review: Steven Jay Rubin does an outstanding job of gathering everything there is to know(and there is everything) about james bond. The content, in depth reports, behind the scenes pictures, and format really make this one of the best sources of information for James Bond movies anywhere. It gets you envolved with these movies wether you are a casual or hard-core fan. The information in this book is genuine, and very interesting. It is obvious that a lot of time and effort was put into this, and I like the results. I would recomend this to anyone, wether a Bond fan, or just a movie fan in general.
Rating: Summary: He Does His Homework for JAMES BOND Review: Steven Jay Rubin has been long underrated as a James Bond enthusiast and seeker of fact on the subject in my opinion. He has always gone to great lengths to obtain accurate information for his published writings. If you are looking solely for photographs go elsewhere. If you want factual objective information based on exhausted research, this is the book for you. He does his homework. I highly recommend this book. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A paradise of facts for the true "Bond-o-phile" Review: The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Rubin offers its readers a cornucopia of trivial knowledge about arguably the world's most famous action hero. From more widely known facts, such as who the first man to play Bond was; to more obscure bits of information, such as the domestic and international grosses of all the Bond films; a true Bond fan is sure to spend hours delving into all the little quirks and idiosyncrasies that make agent 007 such an icon to so many.If there is one drawback to the book, it is that the book is an encyclopedia, and so it is presented in that form... alphabetical order, brief articles on many different entries... so the book tends to be somewhat of a tedious read at times. I would certainly not recommend it to someone who doesn't love Bond movies, but if you do, it is an absolute requirement to finish any Bond collection!
Rating: Summary: The book is one of the best bond information books out there Review: The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia is truly a great book on the world of James Bond. It has information on all the characters including Goldeneye. It also has information on gadgets, cars, other things and trivial information that is definitely important to anyone who truly likes James Bond. It does not contain everything about bond, and the Goldeneye section in the addendum is less than lacking. Besides that and the fact that it needs to be updated to include TND, everything else about the book is really great.
Rating: Summary: this is ovverated and not very good Review: The idea of this book is a great one. There is allot of good information. The problem is that the author puts his own personal opinions in it. It ruins it. After reading it, it sounded like the author had a personal vendatta against roger moore. The author comes across very bitter and ruins the great idea of the book. The author should have kept his opinions to himself. Forget this one. there are plenty of really good books about bond out there.
Rating: Summary: Repetitive with glaring omissions Review: The James Bond Encyclopedia is what it claimed to be, an Encyclopedia of the James Bond films, which featured entries from Dr. No all the way to Licence to Kill, as well as Casino Royale (both the original and the spoof) and Never Say Never Again. A later edition included a preview chapter on GoldenEye. As fascinating as reading the entries, some get a little bit repetitive. For instance, when you look up a characer's entry, and then to the entry of the actor who played him, you pretty much get the same info. Rarely do you get some background info on the actor in question. And Steven Jay Rubin wasted no time trashing three of Roger Moore's movies. Especially A View To A KIll. So Christopher Walken's Zorin is bland and stupid. Okay, so back it up with some facts. Grace Jones was said to be too androgynous for mainstream audiences. Perhaps his idea of mainstream is back in the 1960s, which he is seem to be stuck in. He also said that no one care about the plot because no one care about Silicon Valley, and the film dosesn't explain why Zorin's monopoly on micochips will be so dangerous to the free world. Hello? Are we watching the same movie? As Stacey said, "He'll kill millions" with his man made earthquake; the danger does not lie in Zorin's monopoly, but in his plans to obtain it. That said, the Encyclopedia also ommitted any mention of Chrissie Hynde and the Prentenders and their two fabulous songs "If There Was A Man' and "Where Has Everybody Gone" for the Living Daylights....but he was sure to mention Phyllis Cornell, who was Tania Mallet's double in Goldfinger. It seems that if a James Bond Encyclopedia is to be written, it should be written by more than one person....and someone more objective.
