Description:

The stupidest things ever said by politicians? Gosh, where would you start? But seriously, folks, world leaders say the darnedest things. Have you heard the one about Strom Thurmond, who told a bunch of women who came to testify before Congress, "These are the prettiest witnesses we've had in a long time. I imagine you all are married. If not, you could be if you wanted to be." Of course, with sexism there's often a thin line between stupidity and tactlessness. For sheer boneheaded dumbness, you sometimes have to move on to other subjects, like the time Dan Quayle spoke out on the environment: "It isn't pollution that's harming our environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." That Dan Quayle, he's such a goof. "I believe we are on an irreversible trend towards more freedom and democracy," he said one time. "But that could change." Not that Democrats can't be slow on the uptake themselves. Like California senator Barbara Boxer, who said, "Those who survived the San Francisco earthquake said, 'Thank God, I'm still alive.' But, of course, those who died, their lives will never be the same again." And it's not just Americans who are stupid--how about the Canadian official who said, "If this thing starts to snowball, it will catch fire right across the country." Yep, those politicians, they sure are wacky.
