Summary: Pandora
Review: "Crossword puzzles" Working the puzzles was fun for me. Crosswords taxed my understanding of latin words. It sort of made me feel how dense i know latin words. At times, I would breeze through easily. Other exercises would make me procrastinate. At all times, the book was fun and challenge. After Crossword Puzzles in Latin, I know i have a richer latin vocabulary. For the minimal price the book is a sort of pandora o understanding. You will never know until you work them out.

Summary: too easy?
Review: had I realized that each puzzle had a list of the words needed printed at the bottom of the page right side up I wouldn't have ordered this book. would have preferred no list at all, but if there had to be one it should have been printed upside down.

Summary: Great Fun for Beginning Latin Students
Review: It's so nice to find a supplement that really is easy and can be used by fairly novice Latin students - especially one that is so reasonably priced!!! 50 Crossword puzzles are offered in this volume (with a mix of Latin to English and English to Latin translations) with a list of possible words to choose from at the bottom of each page. (This feature is nice both because it makes it easier for beginning students to choose from a limited vocabulary and because it eliminates confusion about which ending should be used to fit precisely in the crossword.)

This is a fun and easy way to practice vocabulary and have a little variety in your Latin studies.

Summary: CAPITALS are correct
Review: The reviewer below is barking up the wrong tree. Classical Latin was written in all-caps and without accents or macrons. Even when later Latin came to be written in both upper and lower cases, there were no accents or macrons. Perhaps a little harder for beginners, but that's what textbooks are for (also beware that V will represent both u and v, much as in the Oxford Latin dictionary, because the Romans didn't have two separate letters. Hence why v is pronounced like w or u.) This isn't Greek, and by and large accents don't matter. They're completely regular, in any case, and similar to English - with a little practice you'll put them in the right place naturally. If all caps are annoying, at least they'll teach you to read Latin without the artificial aids of modern editors, and that's a valuable skill to have.

Summary: CAPITALS are correct
Review: The word selections are all in capitals. No accent marks, no macrons. In the back of the book the answers are not in capitals, but still no accent marks or macrons. This is a serious omission for a beginner. Could cause some bad misunderstanding and bad habits. If it had not been for this, it would have been a wonderful exercise for beginners. As it is, not having any Latin background, I had to look up every word that I thought needed accents or macrons. NOT fun!! I would like to see more puzzle books like this, but done appropriately. The authors could state that the accents or macrons don't have to be in the puzzle entry, but at least let us see the correct way of spelling and pronouncing Latin words. Another great addition would be sentences from the word list, and audio to go with the sentences.

Summary: Just what I wanted.
Review: This book of Latin crossword puzzles is just what I was looking for to supplement my two teenage daughters' Latin course. I am a homeschooling mother with no Latin experience and wanted to give them a little extra to study but did not want another text book for fear of a revolt. It is an enjoyable, relaxing way to review and increase your vocabulary in Classical Latin. The words that will be used are listed at the bottom of the page which is a big help, but I would suggest a Latin/English dictionary in the house if you get into a jam. If you are a "brain" in Latin you probably won't find it very satisfying, but this book works well for beginners.
