Summary: Here's the handbook on writing we've been looking for ...
Review: A big thumbs up on this one! I finally found a book on screenwriting that is funny, easy to follow and not bogged down in academic jargon. I just read this in one sitting. D.B. Gilles's simple approach to writing takes the fear out of facing a project, and believe me, I've read plenty of these books. If I sell a screenplay NOW, I'll know who to thank.

Summary: THIS ONE ROCKS!
Review: A fast-paced, fun read. It's the only screenwriting book I've read that's as entertaining as it is enlightening. I took it on my vacation figuring I'd read it on the beach. Instead I finished the whole book before the plane even landed. The Table of Contents alone is worth the price of the book.

Summary: If you're serious about a CAREER in screenwriting...
Review: A lot of people want to write screenplays for the romantic notion of getting their name up on the screen, but if you're really serious about writing screenplays that are entertaining and have some actual commercial value, D.B. Gilles will tell you how to get the job done. This book is for the type of person who's writing for the audience, not themselves, which is what a professional (and successful) screenwriter does. If your head's not in the clouds, this book is just what you're looking for.

Review: Act One: It grabbed my attention right away; I was inspired. Act Two: It maintained my interest and guided me though challenges and complications with wit and wisdom and great examples. Act Three: I am equipped to travel with my screenplay from beginning to end; by the by, my journey has begun! .....and, you get nuggets!

Summary: The Second-Best Way to Improve Your Script
Review: Actually, the best thing you can do for your screenplay is to attend one of D.B's Manhattan workshops.

If you can't, definitely buy this book.

D.B is a genius at drawing out and shaping the story lurking in a writer's head. He's also a fanatic about structure and will keep you on the right path without dwelling on points well-covered by others.

So do yourself a favor. Click the Add-to-Cart button next to the book right now. You'll wind up with a more entertaining and salable script for your efforts. And D.B. will keep you smiling along the way.

Summary: The Only Screenwriting Book You'll Need
Review: After reading about every known screenwriting book that is still in print, and having gotten nothing from them but rigid formulations for hackneyed plots and tips on serving up warmed-over dialogue cliches, what a joy it was to crack open "The Screenwriter Within" and get a tour through the playful mind of Mr. D.B. Gilles. His tone is easy-going and conversational, and his ideas about structure hit you like undeniable common sense. His tone is perfect: down-to-earth and unpretentious, yet always going to bat for quality and high standards. He still believes in the power of commercial Hollywood cinema to tell inspiring and thrill-packed stories, and I must admit, his enthusiasm is contagious.
If you're serious about screenwriting---and if you intend to make any kind of a mark in the business, you had better be---then start your education with this book.

Summary: A Must Read for the Aspiring to Accomplished Screenwriter
Review: After reading title after title of books promising brilliant methods towards writing the perfect screenplay, D.B. Gilles' THE SCREENWRITER WITHIN was a breath of fresh air. Finally, a screenwriting guide that leaves all the pretentiousness and step by step formulas behind, while still helping you over the inevitable rough spots that every writer must endure along the way. Through Gilles' many colorful and engaging anecdotes, you can't help but relate to the types of troubles every writer comes upon. You will find yourself referencing this quick read time and time again as the many "nuggets" of information provided may be the reason man ever started dog-earing their pages in the first place. An essential addition to any screenwriter's library.

Summary: This is the book to read...
Review: As a professional writer in Hollywood, I have read all the screenwriting books, taken all the courses, and spoken with all the agents, and this is the book to read. The Screenwriter Within is an excellent informative (and entertaining) sourcebook on three-act structure, filled with examples from the author's own life, quick reference tips, and humor. If you ever wanted to write a screenplay, but didn't know how to get it on the page, this is the book to read. Highly recommended.

Summary: A True Teacher!
Review: Hopeful screenwriters cannot go wrong with "The Screenwriter Within." DB's book attacks writing a screenplay on two levels: first, he provides the reader with the fundementals of the craft needed to develop an engaging story; secondly, DB helps the first time writer gain the confidence needed to complete a full-length script. When you finish reading "The Screenwriter Within," you'll be well equipped to tackle the first draft of that movie you've been knocking around in the back of your mind. A must have for any aspiring screenwriter!

Summary: Great work by DB Gilles
Review: I bought the book from a bookshop after reading the reviews of (mostly) friends and students of Gilles. The reviews of these guys impressed me enough to buy a copy without looking at the content first and still wrapped in plastic. The first chapters' contents were inspiring that I thought not only is he a good teacher but he could really write screenplays. And then I read a spec script he wrote about three astronauts who discovers something on their journey to the moon(included in the last part of the book.)This shattered my respect to the author. The content of the spec script is way outrageous which contradicts what he taught. There are so many writing pitfalls (..and this is just the sequence treatment).A senator -astronaut who after failing to convince the press that he really saw alien during their trip years ago decides to go back to the moon with other astronauts and prove his secret?...Come On! This is supposedly a sold spec script.Pity the Guy who bought it. I'm not surprised it has not been produced yet
