Rating: Summary: I'm making My Own Damn Movie! Review: Being a denizen of Tromaville from way back, I just had to drive over a hundred miles to meet the man responsible for such cinematic romps as The Toxic Avenger, Terror Firmer and Class of Nuke 'em High. Lloyd Kaufman's tour for Make Your Own Damn Movie! met my every expectation and then some. Here's a man who has lived his life on his own terms and shared a unique vision with the world. And now, he's offering a handbook to do the very same thing. I left the signing with a freshly inscribed copy clutched tightly in my greasy mitts, and glowing with the fervor of this shared insanity, I vowed then and there to keep my end of the bargain. Some day in the not too distant future, TV screens all over the world will proudly display a Troma-esque tribute to Lloyd and his do it your own damn self attitude. Thanks, Lloyd... usted tiene bolas de cobre amarillo el tamaƱo de los huevos del avestruz
Rating: Summary: MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE Review: Entertaining, informative, rife with expletives and bodily humor, MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE deserves a spot on any indie-filmmaker's shelf. It's not easy, it's not always rewarding and it's very rarely pretty, but art was first created out of the sheer love of the art, ages before the "devil-worshipping" corporations put a copyright on America. This is the central theme of MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE, and its written as only Kaufman can. "Irreverant" isn't the word to describe this book, so mired in the punk attitudes that Troma has effortlessly kept alive for twenty plus years. It's pointless to warn people about the overtly sexual and excratory jokes - those with delicate sensibilities or any sort of pretention aren't likely to pick it up anyway. This is a manual for the guerrilla filmmaker, the "get the shot!" crew, and the struggling artist who hasn't the first clue of how to get started. Still, you don't have to be a Troma fan to utilize the good advice in this book (just as you don't have to be a fan of John A. Russo's movies in order to gain knowledge from "Making Movies" or "Shock Value"). Kaufman covers the entire filmmaking process from pre- to post-production, and adds a new layer: post-post-production, meaning marketing and distribution. All the information is filtered through the Troma experience, largely using Terror Firmer and Citizen Toxie as reference points. Kaufman's theme is that not only can everyone make their own damn movie, everyone should! But if you're going to do it, take some time and try to do it right. Raise money for your project, spend time on your script and getting the most out of your production, pay attention to little things like sound and editing. And try and get the damned thing seen afterward (implying "good luck" at every point). There are no punches pulled, though. Indie filmmaking isn't glamorous - there are no champagne-fueled wrap parties at the end of production. And you'll be lucky if any of the media conglomerates even deign to glance your way come time for distribution. Kaufman never promises it will be easy - and goes out of his way to provide examples of the opposite. But MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE is nothing if not honest, and inspiring to those committed to the socialist notion that art belongs in the hands of the people, whatever the definition of "art" may be.

Rating: Summary: every filmmaker needs this book Review: This book has it all! Any filmmaker, experienced or not, has to have this book in arms reach. Informative, inspirational and all out funny. The footnotes alone will make you cry for weeks from laughing so hard.
Rating: Summary: This book kicks ...!! Review: This book is awesome! Lloyd Kaufman, Adam Jahnke, Trent Haaga, and others, have a real knack for writing a hilarious how-to book on no-budget movie making. What I like is that they never sugar coat anything. They're real with you about the struggles of making a movie with no budget. Lloyd Kaufman brings his years of experience as a producer/director, while Trent Haaga brings us a different perspective as writer and first time assistant director. An awesome book with loads of useful information. I loved the footnotes! Awesome!
Rating: Summary: Movies of the Future! Review: No matter what you may think of Troma's movies (and certainly they're not for everyone), "Make Your Own Damn Movie" is a worthwhile read, even if you have no intention of ever making your own damn movie. In addition to being highly entertaining, it presents a detailed and complete discussion of the process of seat-of-your-pants filmmaking, even if you[have a low budget]. The honest, no-BS writing, amazing true anecdotes, and informed (sometimes contradictory) opinions by other crew members make the idea of actually DOING it, actually making your own movie, seem tantalizingly within reach. And that is just what he hopes you will do, because on another level this book is a protest against mainstream Hollywood studios and their monopolistic stranglehold on the movie industry. Lloyd Kaufman is a hero to deviants everywhere.
Rating: Summary: The Tromatic guide to make your own damn movie! Review: Author of this book is Legendary filmmaker and president of Troma entertainment Inc, Lloyd Kaufman. I must say that this book is absolutely spectacular! Lloyd`s first book (which i also recommend to read) was a wonderful journey into the life and work of Lloyd Kaufman / Troma. This second book continues the journey to help the upcoming / professional filmmakers on their journey to make their own damn movie! This book is the best film school you can get! It is smart, gripping, funny and educational and must buy to those whom are planning on taking the road of becoming part of this weird and amazing industry of filmmaking. And if you are not interested on making a movie, just read it for the terriffic text written by Kaufman, Trent Haaga and Adam Jahnke with foreword by Trey Parker. I highly recommend this book and also "ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FILMMAKING I LEARNED FROM THE TOXIC AVENGER" These book`s are the best of their kind!!!!
Rating: Summary: Surpirsingly he Knows what he's talking about!! Review: Like most people who will read this book, I have a deep interest in film and am a wannabe director. Over the years I have read many books that are on the subject of how to make your own film. Most of the books were informative on the topic at hand but they weren't exactly books that I couldn't put down. However, Make Your Damn Movie! is different. It is by far the mostinformative book I've read and is also the the most enetertaining book by far. When I was reading it I couldn't put it down and what makes it even better is that it has Lloyd Kaufman's very own personal touch. In my opinion its money well spent and is extreamly funny as well. So go and buy it right now!
Rating: Summary: Movie Fans Take Note Review: A good three-to-four-sitter read: my favourite since Bruce Campbell's bio. It helps to read this book in the context of the Troma experience - low-budget movies that are hilariously entertaining. Never taking himself too seriously, Lloyd teaches a lesson for all of the potentially pretentious directors out there: Make movies that you care about, that you laugh (or cry) at, then hope the rest of the world falls in line; but most of all, throw in some gratuitous sex and violence. I can't get enough of the movies and readily await "Tales from the Crapper." Larry in Pittsburgh
