Summary: Great reading even if you are not a filmmaker
Review: This book is a great and hilarious read even you are not trying to make your own damn movie. Written by the B-MOVIE King himself, Lloyd Kaufman, about his experiences making his own movies on tight budgets. If you are a filmmaker looking to learn how to make features on the cheap, or for laugh out loud reading, this book is full of both. Nothing but high praises for this great book. Thanks Lloyd.

Summary: Opening the Door
Review: Okay, maybe it's the back door to the movie industry, but Lloyd Kaufman is definitely about making the film world accessible.

In addition to Kaufman's usual humor and shock value (Toxic Avenger fans will not be disappointed!), each chapter is loaded with pithy and practical advice from the trenches of true independent film making. The author and his collaborators offer inside tips on dealing with content, equipment, cast, crew and brutally honest cautionary tales about the many insidious business details that can plague a beginning film maker. Unlike many "Hollywood" insider books that go on and on about how tough it is to break in, "Make Your Own Damn Movie" conveys a genuine sense of welcome to those to aspire to pick up a camera and tell a story.

I highly recommend this book to those who want to make their own movies, or to those who simply enjoy Lloyd Kaufman's films and want to know more about them.

Summary: hiimareview
Review: Make Your Own Damn Movie!: Secrets of a Renegade Director is a combination of argot and total garbage to make something like filmmaking like getting to first base with your sister. Sometimes confusing with mixtures of terms like art and production-value, it makes enough sense to get by at times. I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of filming nomenclature and personal experience to create something that teaches as well as entertains. Though dry at times with "extensive" explanations of terms and occupations, it sets out to do what Lloyd Kaufman intended to do in his first book.

Summary: Shoveling Rat Poop for Art
Review: Lloyd Kaufman has done for movies what the Sex Pistols did for music. With such underground classics as the Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High, Kaufman has made audiences laugh, cheer, gasp, and sometimes even vomit. Now, with Make Your Own Damn Movie, he accomplishes something many fans of his work might not expect. He makes us think.

While the spine of Kaufman's book is a how-to memoir, it is also a well of inspiration for all those who always wanted to make a film but didn't have the confidence. Yes, there is plenty of outrageous humor. What would you expect from the makers of the Toxie series? But Kaufman aims at nothing less than to bring art to the masses. Somehow, he revels in the dirty details of indie movie making-the sweat and grime of it all-yet still manages to make it look like a glorious crusade. Kaufman battles against the entertainment establishment, against his crew, against reason, all to achieve his goal, to make movies.

And just as a film is a collaborative effort, so is this book. With insight and wit, Kaufman's collaborators detail a world of experiences that could only happen on a Troma production.

Even if you don't want to make your own damn movie, even if you hate Toxie and everything he stands for, check out this book. It is a must have for anyone who loves movies.

Summary: Informative, To the Point, and Entertaining!!
Review: This book is a great read for everyone-whether you are a die-hard Troma fan or just someone looking to get more information on the film-making business. Lloyd Kaufman has "been there and done that" and knows what he's talking about. This book is not only very informative about how to go about making your own film but it is also entertaining the whole way. I learned a lot and have a new appreciation for all the hard work that goes into making a film. Lloyd Kaufman tells it how it really is and cuts through all the "fluff" you might read in other books. I highly recommend this book.
