Rating: Summary: 456 Review: I was just thinking the other day, How can I get into porn? Then I looked it up and found this gem. This is the perfect gift for anyone on Valentine's Day! I wish this book had come out 10 years ago and then I could have done it but sadly I am now passed my prime. BOO-HOO
Rating: Summary: This Book is All It Claims to Be and More Review: I was very pleased with 1-2-3 BE A PORN STAR. It addressed every single one of my concerns and questions about what it would be like to be an actor in the adult industry. In many cases, the book went into even greater detail than I would have expected and it definitely made me think about all the pros and cons of the job. I almost didn't buy it because of all the nasty reviews, so I just want to make a couple of quick points of my own. First, I found ALL of the contact information to be correct and up to date, so I don't know what these negative reviewers are talking about. Not all of the agents are eager to talk to men... that is a fact, guys. Men are not in huge demand in this business, but the book does give tips for how to address this problem and bypass it. Second, the book does not simply discuss making your own video... it has loads of info for how to get gigs with professional producers. Third, the porn stars interviewed are very helpful and totally realistic to me. Besides, if Jill Kelly and Max Hardcore and Nina Hartley and all the other stars interviewed were not REAL interviews, do you really think they would allow this book to be distributed??? So come on folks, lets bring the discussion of this book to a higher level instead of letting people with ulterior motives disseminate false information.
Rating: Summary: Surprsingly Honest and Insightful Expose' of Adult Films. Review: I'll begin by saying I'm not in any way involved in the adult film industry, except for being a semi-regular consumer. Many reviewers poorly rate this book, arguing it isn't an accurate or effective guide. I suspect some negative reviewers have ideological problems with porn. I checked some of their other reviews and either they had written about very view sex-related books, or usually wrote about them negatively. To be fair, this wasn't the case for everyone, and some do seem genuinely well informed. That said, I bought this book primarily out or curiousity; I wanted a general understanding of what it's like to work in the porn industry. On that level, the book seems to work for me. Loria provides fairly detailed steps for breaking into the world of adult films. She describes different types of adult films (gonzo, pro-am, etc.), legal aspects, and provides a fairly comprehensive list of contacts. She also provides detailed instructions/suggestions for making your own adult video (including legal safeguards and equipment suggestions). I didn't attempt to use any of the contacts, but as a consumer I did recognize several film company names. What's most interesting are Loria's interviews with several porn actors. Through these interviews and personal anecdotes she's able to give the reader insight into the fiercely proctective social enclave that is the porn community. She provides a seemingly balanced perspective of what it's like to be in the porn industry, as her interviewees describe the good and bad aspects of being a porn actor. A surprising revelation is how difficult in can be for male porn actors. A common criticisism of pornography is that it exploits women, but interviews with male porn actors reveal that in some ways they are under greater pressure than their female counterparts. Though the book is fairly balanced in dipicting both good and bad aspects of the industry, at times it does seem to gloss over the more seamy aspects of the industry. I've read in other sources that many porn filmmakers are duplicitous, untrustworthy, and selfishly manipulative (though of course it's unfair to characterize all pornographic filmmakers this way). Loria touches on this aspect of the industry somewhat, but only in a cursory manner. 1-2-3 Be a Porn Star is a great read for those thinking of entering, or anyone curious about the porn industry. Like so many other males, I casually maintained the notion of working in adult films. After reading this book and getting a more detailed understanding of the industry, I can say that it's definetly not for me. As an ocassional viewer of pornography, I found this to be an interesting and revealing look behind the scenes of adult films.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK PROVIDES NOTHING BUT FALSE LEADS.!!!!!!!! Review: I'm employed as a runner in the Adult film industry. That means I assist the producers, the cameramen, the actors and actresses and the rest of the crew with lighting, meals, transportation, tours, and generating sales. I have been in the Adult film making business for over 14 years. I read this book out of curiosity and I couldn't help but laugh. The only thing in this book that even comes close to being real is the interviews with stars ( even then, I'm not sure how true they are)!. This book claims to give you up to date information on agents, but anyone can throw out names. This book claims you'll make X amount of dollars (I've only seen those figures on well known famous porn stars.) In reality, this book is worth reading if you know nothing about the Adult Industry. People might read this book and think WOW!!!!! But for anyone considering taking this book seriously, you're heading for a total let down.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK MADE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE TO ENTER THE BIZ Review: I've always fantasized about being nude in front of the camera, as I'm a bit of an exhibitionist and being submissive helps too :) But I'm not stupid and I don't want to take unnecessary risks or get ripped off by some sleazy adult producer, so I never felt secure enough to actually try going into porn. Then I read 1-2-3 BE A PORN STAR, and I was totally excited because Ana lays it all out for you as far as what you need to do to take precautions and make sure you get paid the right amount. This was exactly what a shy little sub girl needed to get her hands on! (And it is very well written, to my amazement.) I recommend this book if you are at all curious, because you only live once!
Rating: Summary: Oh my god! Sex!!!!!!!! Review: It's always been my dream to have sex with people I don't know, and actually get paid for it! Wowzers! This book made my dream come true. After all, who wouldn't want to have sex in front of 30 strangers, including a cameraman, five caterers, and a (...) director's assistant! If you want to be paid to be trashy and sketchy, then this fine instructional novel is perfect for you!
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!! Review: Man, I am glad I didn't listen to the reviewer who has submitted about 8 negative reviews (yes, dude, I can tell you are the same person, despite claiming in each review that you are a different person from "los angeles", "the big apple", "oregon", etc.. You're not fooling anyone. The way you misspell "curiousity" and "alot" the same way in each review as well as focusing on the same themes OVER and OVER again. Like saying the contact listings are inaccurate. That's such Bs. The contact information is right on the money. So you must have some kind of axe to grind with this book, who knows what. Maybe you are a disgruntled porn star who doesn't want any competition, and this book is so good you know it will send people into the business in droves, and you don't like that. You ought to be a bit more secure, dude. If you're so good at what you do, you have nothing to worry about. This book is the bomb. Very entertaining to read and, as someone who's been in the industry about 4 years myself, I found it very accurate.
Rating: Summary: Mummy always told me... Review: Mummy always told me that I should follow my dreams, but always have a sensible job to fall back on. This is mine, just in case the election doesn't work out.
Rating: Summary: Just another porn book Review: PROS: This is a serious book for individuals looking to get into the porn industry. It contains information for beginners and the Curious. CONS: concentrated mostly of mainstream porn and only provided minimal information on the sub categories. The book was worth reading, but it briefly touched on the subjects of acting, amateur videos, mainstream, hardcore, softcore, fetish, gonzo, gay, bi, lesbian, transsexual, and couples videos.I was hoping for more information, more instruction, more guidance. I don't thing it covered any of these areas in depth, therefore leaving many questions unanswered. The only thing this book covered in depth were the interviews. I would say this book is worth reading, more for informational purposes, rather than for guidance into the adult industry.
