Rating: Summary: Linda Seger is a GENIUS!!! Review: I just bought this book and I have been devouring it the way that I eat ice cream...this book is great for me since I'm a first time writer, and I'm currently in the rewrite process. This is a book on REWRITING....and it's also a mini-course on structure, character development, mythology in screenwriting, etc. It has EVERYTHING that you need to know about how to make your screenplay GREAT, it has definitely helped me.The best thing she said is...IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT! She says to just concentrate on the areas that don't work, and leave the rest alone. Her attitude is to come in and rewrite the story and leave in all the good parts instead of totally destroying what's already good...this seems to be a rare attitude. Anyway, she tells you everything you need to do to make your screenplay a sellable product, which is to start by making it well structured.
Rating: Summary: Screenplay structure laid bare. Review: Written by a well-known script consultant, this is a valuable guide for writing and rewriting. It's also a classic in the field of structure
Rating: Summary: A FAST TO THE POINT ANTHOLOGY FOR ASPIRING SCREENWRITTERS Review: This anthonlogy on screenwriitng is fast and to the point, read that will greatly enhannce any screenplay. IT will help especially thoose writters whose script is way to long and cannot find a way to make the nesesary cuts without loosing a majot part of the story. It centainly did for me. Also if you have an idea for a film but are intimidated about the prospect about ooutlining and getting it all prepared to work into a cohiesive memorable script look no further MAKING A GOOD SCRIPT GREAT is the answer to your pawyer's.
Howver I am happy to report that it does not go on and on, (as Syd Field does), about what stories work and which do not.It meerly helps guide you through the path of making your story a structurally savy. Beacause the sad truth is that as writters some have it and others don't, if you are an aspiring writter who can never come up with a good story than aspire to do somthing else, it's okay this doesn't mean your a bad person. MAKING A GOOD SCRIPT GREAT will not help you if you can't take the first step. And niether will any other book, (even if they say they can).
T
he only reason I give this helpful anthology only four stars is that I personally disagree with Seger on one key element of filmmaking. She seems to belive that films are purely about visuals and that diolouge, perticualy expository speechs just bog down scripts. In many cases this is true but not in all. I think that diolog can be just as important in film as any other element as long as it is kept within a certian limit. Just as any other element of film should be.
If you have any other worries i can only assure you that MAKING A GOOD SCRIPT great has halped ME, i would not have been able to write the script i did without it, and i am enternally greatful.
Rating: Summary: How to Make Your Unique Script Look Like "Witness" Review: I bought this book because it was required for a course I was taking on screenwriting. By about the fourth chapter I had found at least 5 blatant spelling/grammar errors. Everyone makes errors, yes, but it's hard to take a writer who is giving advice seriously when she can't even get her books edited correctly. This wasn't the only problem with the book, which seemed at times to exist to kiss up to other screenwriters. Linda used examples to illustrate her points, but her views were too narrow. Witness might have been a good movie, but did it deserve over two chapters of commentary and worship? I think not.
Rating: Summary: Structure, Structure, Structure Review: Linda is a genius! I know that from this book, and I also know it from hiring her as a script consultant on two different occasions.
