Rating: Summary: This is an awesome collection of information! Review: The Indie Bible is a whole library of music-based information books, all combined into one single book. It has everything that a musician, songwriter, singer, would need to know about breaking into the business. It is a great resource for everyone in the music industry. I have found more listings than I did looking all over the Internet, and in several other books. And, it is all in one. I would say that this book is probably the only book a musician would ever need to own!
Rating: Summary: A world class publication! Review: The Indie Bible is a world class publication & the best addition to my library since I bought my last copy of This Business of Music.
Rating: Summary: If you have a CD you're promoting, go buy this book NOW! Review: The Indie Bible with its mammoth list of resources combined with it unique organization of listings by genre made finding promotional opportunities a breeze. If you have a CD you're promoting, go buy the Indie Bible NOW!
Rating: Summary: Lots of contacts. Great for a marketing brainstorm. Review: There are a ton of contacts in the Indie Bible, but don't buy it for numbers alone. The thing that I think is best about this book is that there are a lot of niche places to promote your music such as radio shows, web sites, and labels. And niche is key when it comes to independent music marketing. IF you think you're going to get out there and blanket the entire US (or world) like major labels do, you're fooling yourself. The Indie BIble will help you go narrow and deep.
Rating: Summary: This book has been an AMAZING help! Review: This book has been an AMAZING help. I'm getting a lot of response from people I never would have never found on my own.
Rating: Summary: The best Resource Directory out there! Review: This book is a 316-page collection of the most useful resources on the planet and presented in an easy-to-follow format ... quite possibly the most valuable piece of literature to occupy any recording artist's library.
I was first impressed with the physical quality of "The Indie Bible." Its durable construction and crystal clear, full color images make for a very pleasing read and, content aside, is alone worth the cover price. It's surely built to outlive many of the companies listed in it. Every page is painstakingly organized and it's obvious that the utmost attention was paid to every detail.
Don't get me wrong. While "The Indie Bible" is pretty to look at, it's also a very powerful instrument ... chock-full of up-to-date resources covering every musically viable aspect beneficial to the DIY artist. There are seven huge sections listing everything from people that will review independent music to radio stations that will play it, as well as publications, CD manufacturing, marketing and general knowledge resources ... and these are all people who want to be contacted by independent artists.
The "Bible" also has a section loaded with informative articles ... all written by the top authorities in the biz and all geared to better inform artists on a variety of important subjects that could greatly impact their success. I was amazed at the number of essential little details I would have missed without them, were I marketing my own music. Additionally, the organization of this publication is top-notch. Broken down by service type, genre and geographical locale, every morsel of information is easy to locate.
As if all that weren't enough, there's also a page with key tips on how to use the assets contained in the book. I'd like to draw special attention to the significance of this particular section, as the book's creator has included a short essay on the do's and don'ts when using the "Bible." His words come from the experience and feedback of five previous editions and I recommend reading it before even leafing through the other pages.
There are a lot of resource directories out there, but "The Indie Bible" is by far the best one I've seen. It does everything but actually contact the people listed in it and, if used wisely, could be the difference between a stagnant career and a successful one. I can see where this book might be the most dangerous weapon in an artist's arsenal.
I really have to hand it to author, Dave Wimble. He's outdone himself with this edition of "The Indie Bible." It truly is the ultimate all-in-one networking device and should be considered more of a tool than a book. I would fully recommend it as a top resource to anyone trying to further his or her musical career.
Rating: Summary: This book is amazing! Review: This book is amazing! This is a superior resource for burgeoning as well as experienced professionals. I have already begun steering people in the direction of this book verbally. I've noticed tremendous growth in the awareness of this book over the past couple years. I'm sure that trend will continue.
