Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Absolute Best
Review: This is the absolute best book on screenwriting on the market. I have read 100s of them, and this is by far the one that gives the most detail, the most logical advice, and the best how-to information for screenwriters new and old. This is an absolute must have for all screenwriters. I can't wait to take his course!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must have for any screenwriter!
Review: Nothing is a substitute for Robert McKee's seminar, but his book sure comes close. A well laid out reference source for even the experts and a must have for any new writer. Real and thought provoking advice.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Structuring the study of structure
Review: Other books on writing technique give only random tastes of the insights Robert McKee collects, manipulates--no, sculpts, into a whole that the learning writer can hold in his mind and bring to his word processor.

It's the structure of this book on structure that makes it so very useful. When I'm working on a novel, perhaps struggling to marry beginning to ending, or decide whether or not to keep a character, I know exactly where in McKee's book I can turn for the answer. And McKee never gives an answer without relating its place within the broad science of storytelling. Hence, I always know exactly where I want to be, and why.

Some may fear this book is too 'left-brained', that it might inhibit, rather than promote creativity. But I say, "Story" takes so much of the helpless left-brained groping out of the business of writing. The reader knows what works, and why. He can relax, and let his right brain cook up the story feast!

Summary: Must read for screenwriters and film lovers
Review: This book, I suspect, is as good as one of McKee's seminars. Though I've not attended one and the clips would be invaluable to watch, the book offers a chance to slow down and savor a point. Besides, go rent the movies. I highly recommend this book: it is inspiring. ANyone who wants to write a screenplay should read it first.

Summary: You can get it for less
Review: This is an excellent book. I have attended McKee's seminar, which is the best in the business, and most of it is in this book. Check other sites though.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Should be a prerequisite to picking up a pen.
Review: This book had me putting it down every 5 minutes just to contain my jubilation at the discovery of an author who not only addresses the HOW of writing a great story, but the WHY.

The technical merits of this book alone should make it requisite reading for anyone who thinks they want to write. Interestingly enough, I found that whenever I was stumped, Story offered me a choice between figuring out how to fix it, or inciting my muse enough to come up with a totally different approach.

This is the closest to a "formulaic" approach to a script that works as you can get: Add 2 parts STORY to 2 parts creativity, and 1 part discipline and stir well. See you at the top!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: incomparable
Review: I add my voice to the others. There is no book out there as comprehensive and erudite as this on the art of screen writing. I had the luxury of reading the book prior to taking the seminar. Thank god I did. In the seminar, McKee presents his information at a furious pace, but essentially follows the same format as the book. Being able to take notes directly into the text hammered home the wealth of insight and perspective.

Summary: This book is in a class by itself
Review: I have read numerous books on the subject of screenwriting and story. McKee's book is in a class by itself, and I do not rate it a "10" lightly. Not only does he answer, with dumbfounding clarity, all those irritating questions about dramatic structure and character that so many other books bring to the reader's mind but never really answer. He does so without being dogmatic or formulaic. Hard to believe? For those of you who have, as I do, a bulging library of books on screenwriting, after reading this book I bet you will want to get rid of most of the rest of them! That will give you more room on your shelf for all the new screenplays you will be inspired to write (and sell) as a result of reading McKee's passionate book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Simply the best of the rest - inspiring and very insightful
Review: This is a must for any screenwriter. It carefully emphasizes on writing screenplay cliches which I found inspiringly insightful. Very different from any other book in its class and it may just change the way you write permanently! This is my new bible.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best Book on Writing Ever
Review: Not an exaggeration at all. I've never read a better book on writing (and not just screenwriting either). This book transcends all forms of literature. Absolutely amazing.
