Rating: Summary: Excellent material once again from a genealogy pro! Review: Ms.Crowe has once again delivered an excellent resource on searching for our ancestors online. In her typically informative but relaxed style she has managed to put together an informative and user friendly outline on the best ways to research and enjoy yourself at the same time. In a world where technology is constantly changing it is invaluable to have the most up to date material available. This latest effort delivers new ideas and sources, and guides the researcher through the frivolous and straight to the important information that is online. Kudos to Ms. Crowe.
Rating: Summary: Good & Bad points.. Review: Not so suprising that there's such disparity in the reviews of this book. Especially since most every review I read so far was true. This book is good if: you are a genealogist NEW to the net. A lot of ground is covered, in terms of what kinds of software is needed (over an above the venerable genealogical database), as well as how to act/speak/do online. This book is bad if: you've been online for more than a week. Too much ground is covered... well... look at the paragraph above... :) I've found that some of the information she presents is a bit dated, but not so much so that a new user will terribly embarrass themselves by relying on it. Overall, for myself (as a computer consultant of 15+ years) it did have some information to impart. Not necessarily enough to make this a "must have", but worth a read and recycle.

Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Money! Review: This book is too Americocentric for my liking. I found very little of it to be any use, or particularly relevant to European genealogy. I didn't find anything in this book that hasn't been covered by the major genealogy web sites. My advice - save your money unless you are a complete novice at this genealogy game. Would proabably make a good present for someone who was thinking about tracing their family tree.

Rating: Summary: A New Tool for Genealogy: Online Resources Review: What's so exciting about genealogy is that this wonderful old hobby has a new and exciting tool: The Internet. I have worked long and hard on updating every single chapter of this edition of Genealogy Online. It includes a look at the new LDS Family Search which launched in May; an update on the latest Afrigeneas site, and a look at the new AOL 4.0 and CompuServe 2000 software. The screen shots were all taken in 1999, although some at the very beginning of the year. A project like this takes time, and as I say in the introduction, the only constant on the Internet is change. Sites will appear, change and disappear between the time a book goes to press and the time it gets to the bookstore. That's why I have written four updates to Genealogy Online so far, and will continue to gather information for future updates. I hope this book will help you do your genealogy with more success, more speed and more fun!
