Summary: This books seems to be a very good one for programmers.
Review: It will be excellent for me to see the book on line

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Book for Exam
Review: This book is right on target. Has all the required material. Use it in conjunction with Sybex Press book by Simon Roberts. This book also has pointers to some online practice tests. Test has question on GridBagLayout, which this book covers. Thanks to this book, I passed the exam today.

Summary: Really helpful for passing the exam
Review: This book is really helpful for passing the exam because: (1) it points out many pitfalls and tricks that you will encounter in the exam questions; (2) its practice questions are close to the real exam questions; (3) it offers a concise summary of what you need to know. Notice that this book is not for learning Java. Rather, it is for preparing for passing the exam. For learning Java, I would recommend "Just Java 1.2" by Peter van der Linden.

Summary: Excellent Book for Experienced Java Programmer
Review: This is a very good book for experienced java programmer to prepare the exam. It points out all the important topics that are in the exam. On the other hand, it hits many advanced topics without too many examples and explanation. So if you don't have too much of java programming experience, I would not recommend this book if you are looking for a book that will kinda teach you java and prepare for exam. Also, the mock exam is excellent and very similiar to the real one. Of course, the price is good too when compared with the other study guides!

Summary: Excellent for Cramming and you can carry it in a big pocket
Review: Like the title says it's an Exam Cram book, not a general Java tutorial, thus it should be used along with other material. It concentrates on the objectives and has no padding, just solid coverage of the Programmer Exam topics. It has no re-printing of the API, no coverage of the Developer Exam or the Architect Exam, just the Java Programmer Exam.

It has fewer errors than any other book on this topic, trust me, I can point out some fairly substantial errors in the other books, nothing significant in this. The actual exam does NOT expect you to understand native methods and thus the book does not cover this subject.

Because it is physically small you can carry it with you easily. This also means it would not make a good paperweight.

The mock questions in the book are probably a little harder than the real thing, so if you can answer them, you will probably pass the real exam.

Summary: Good IF experienced, don't touch if new to Java
Review: Book has some errors, and if used ONLY for the test, you will fail. It glosses over a lot of topics and is good if you haven't touched Java in a while and need a refresher. I took the test after using this book and failed, looked up some questions I new I missed, and they weren't even in the book, no wonder I didn't pass. Got a more detailed book and passed easily. Barry Boone is good...just doesn't have a Java 2 book yet, but his ver. 1.1 book filled a LOT of gaps Brogden doesn't touch. Brogden says 'Native methods are not on the exam.' uh, yeah. Both times I took the exam, a question about Native methods was on the exam. Good for something...and that's a paperweight or a refresher.

Summary: concise book perfect for experienced Java developers
Review: As a Java developer with 3+ years experience, I needed a book that would point me in the right direction to pass the exam. This book does it. It's accurate, showed me the areas I needed to study, and has an excellent practice exam that "coaches you". This was my only study guide, and I passed the exam.

Summary: An excellent book for an experienced Java2 programmer.
Review: I like this book a lot since it provides almost everything you need to know to take the exam. However, it is not a good start for beginners since it assumes some Java2 programming experience of the readers. The questions in the book are very close to the questions in the exam. I passed on the first trial comfortably and confidently.

Summary: not bad
Review: This book isn't a bad supplement but the Roberts/Heller/Ernest guide is the one to go with. The RHE guide gives complete and specific examples of every topic covered by the test whereas the Exam Prep frequently covers material not required for the exam (e.g. some of the layout managers) and omits important material as well. Most of this book is a rehash of the Exam Cram (which is very useful) and quite a few innacuracies exist e.g. the statement that the exam is 90 minutes long when, in fact, it is 2 hours. A little surprising that the author didn't know this. When I emailed the publishers on this (twice) I was told to contact my local testing center. Most helpful.

Summary: good book for those experienced with Java
Review: Passsed the exam with this book, the references to web sites with other test questions in the book, and the practice exams from the Java 1.1 Boone book.

The questions were very representative of the actual test. Even with the book and other test questions, I still found this test to be very difficult.

I still use the book as a quick reference for Java issues.
