Rating: Summary: Excellent cram book Review: The book is for what it states (Exam cram). If you pass themock exam at the end of this book you would be gauranteed to pass thereal one. Worth it! By the way I passed !!!
Rating: Summary: A quick study guide for experienced developers... Review: I used this book as my only study guide for the java 2 exam..I've developed in Java since the alpha days, and done some very largeprojects with it, yet this book still covered things I didn't know, andthings which were covered in the exam. The book covers all the aspectsof the language covered on the exam in a brief but concise fashion, providing test questions at the end of each. This book won't do alone ifyou're new to Java, but if you're experienced, it might do the trick.
Rating: Summary: Well written; nice balance Review: I found this certification guide enjoyable to read and a big help -especially in the section after each chapter that aids in reinforcing that paricular topic. I got a good a sense of where I stood in my knowledge of Java with each chapter and knew whether or not to move on or to throttle back and review along with other java books. I still refer to the other certification book by Roberts and Heller though, since they seem to be more convincing as to the particulars of the certification questions. I believe that as a teaching/guide book to prepare one for real- world java programming and evaluating ones level of expertise, this book does point the serious student in the right direction.
Rating: Summary: Great book for the Exam Review: This is the only book I used, outside of the online Sun documentation, and I passed the test first time. I have only three months of Java experience (and don't know C++) so this book is fine for non-C programmers, too. The book covers the Exam objectives and points out many of the rules and interactions the test stressed. It is NOT a book to learn Java. My only negative is that many of the questions from the book were re-used in the two tests on CD with just a word or operator changed. I would have preferred more varied questions. The test engine was almost like the real thing.
Rating: Summary: The best second book. Review: Before using this book, I spent one month on Java 1.1 Certification Studt Guide by Simon Roberts/Philip Heller. I felt not confident enough, so I took a look at all certification books and found that this book is the best one for me. I pass the Java 2 programmer exam easily. I strongly recommand this book. However, I find the certification does not help much for looking a new job if you are not currently a Java programmer.
Rating: Summary: good concise review of exam objectives Review: I passed the SCJP2 Exam using this book in conjunction with Roberts & Heller and Barry Boone's book. The exam cram title is very appropriate in that the book does not really try to teach you concepts. You should have a fairly good grounding in Java fundamentals and use this book as a refresher before taking the exam. The practice exam in the book should be a pretty good predictor of whether you can pass the actual exam.
Rating: Summary: A very good second book! Review: This is the supplement book you need for the exam. It has a very good practice test section. Try to give this test the day before your exam for a confidence. It does not cover the gridbag layout/ collections very well, but if you are going for an additional book, this is it. I found the actual exam a little easier than this book's test.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, compact Review: This is an outstanding, compact book on Java 2 certification. The author covers the main point very well and the sample questions are excellent. It is good companion book if you are new to Java. I used it to for review and pass the exam easily. Comparing size and the quality of the content, this is a better book than the large books, full of errors on the market at this time.
Rating: Summary: Very confusding book Review: This one is vey confusing and all messed up. most of the questions are not formatted properly as if written to bother you, not to help. not at all good for the certification exam. R&H is good despite its typos and all, atleast explains concepts clearly.
Rating: Summary: A must for Java2 Certification Review: An excellent book for java 2 certification. All topics are dealt in depth and are of high standards, except for the new collections and the Q.Ans. directory structure. definitely better than simon roberts java 2 certification.
