Summary: A lot of bogus reviews!
Review: A lot of hype for a book that is average. This book is ok but
considering it was written by a Server+ subject matter expert
you would think that there would be more tips on what to expect on the exam. This book has nothing special in it that is not present in the other study guides. I found it hard to read since the text is squashed to the middle of the bind. I am disappointed that this book did not have enough info on what to really expect on the exam.

Summary: Server +
Review: An excellent book for planning and reference. It is easy to read and understand, and he provides review questions at the end of each lesson to check for understanding. I will definitely keep this book on my desk.

Summary: Wild Bill Trips Waitress, Server Goes Down
Review: As a novice to the more modern mindset of networking, as opposed to the more traditional mainframe way of thinking, I need all the guidance I can get. Mr Jernigans' "war story " based approach seems to provide a practical need-based learning environment. At times, learning all this garbage seems pointless, but providing a scenario firmly grounded in reality gives me a method of remembering the lessons' point. Having spent some time as a mainframe operator/datacomm guru, just now getting back into the IT world is presenting some formidable obstacles. Issues of gray matter notwithstanding, learning, or in some cases, relearning this complex information has been made somewhat easier. I have found that skimming the sidebar stories in this very readable book stimulates me to delve deeper in hopes I can avoid the "Egg on Face/Work All Day Saturday Syndrome" that we know all too well.

Summary: Does not Deliver!
Review: Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED, I found this book hard to read and full of errors. I hated how the author
assumes you know this stuff and then does not elaborate on certain topics. I'm not impressed....

Review: Elton has put together an excellent study guide to prepare you for the Server+ exam. In addition to breaking down the exam objectives and thoroughly covering all of the topics, this is a good reference book to have even if you don't plan on taking the Server+ exam. A few of the things about this guide that I thought was especially good were:
-Excellent review of numerous concepts, such as: Intel processors, system buses, RAM types, SCSI, tape backup technologies, Ethernet, & RAID arrays.

-Exam Tips are listed throughout the text to show the items that you should focus on for the exam.
-Step-by-step procedures are provided for many hardware procedures.
-Many good references to online resources.
This study guide has two more things that are especially helpful in preparing for the Server+ exam; Fast Facts & a 150 question practice exam (on the included CD).
Well done Elton.

Summary: To The Point and Potent
Review: Elton Jernigan has made his vast knowledge and learning techniques available to anyone interested in Server + Certification. He presents a no frills approach to the material and zeroes in on key points that prepare students for the Server + SKO-001 exam. It is apparent that Elton is an experienced technician and teacher. This book is filled with pertinent information. It does not subject the reader to excessive verbage. I recommend this book to serious IT students who wish to get a solid grip on Server + basics.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Nice book but inadequate for the exam
Review: Elton Jernigan's Server+ Certification guide was written with the intent to present the material needed to pass the CompTIA Server+ certification. Though the breadth of the material needed to be competent to pass the exam is quite large, my hope in purchasing this book was to at least cover the exam objectives enough to be able to have a fighting chance against the bank of questions presented. I'm A+, Net+, MCP and have over two years of server support experience in the Windows environment.

Though I should have known better than to base my studies on a single book, I felt that my experience plus a good overview of the technologies involved should allow me to pass this test.

I took the test today and failed it by one point. You will not, I repeat not, be able to pass this test with the knowledge presented in this book. Where this book presents beginner's level knowledge of the Server+ objectives, the actual test needs an intermediate or better understanding of hardware and multi-vendor network operating systems.

The exam was intermediate difficulty and you will not pass with this book alone. I'll retest and spend another $207 but with a more in-depth study of the material.

2-stars for at least covering the basics of the objectives.

Summary: Give me a break
Review: Having spent over 30 years as a field engineer. I have worked on mainframes,
Mid- Line servers, and servers. I highly recommend Elton server + book. His book is well organized and easy to read. You can tell that Elton has spent a great deal time making sure his facts and terminology are correct. This is not always easy to find in training guides. You should find this book a great help whether you are a novice or more experienced in your pursuit for certification. I would recommend using third practice exams. As you probably know compTia exams can be vague at best.
Great job Elton
