Summary: Concise book, but muddy explanations
Review: Dear Amazon-browsing knowledge seeker:

THe conciseness of this book was nice in the first few chapters,
but one wants clear explanations for topics like pointers and variable references.

I found these crucial topics to be very hastily and muddily described: not at all what one wants in an introductory book.

One definitely gets the feeling that the author was in too much of a hurry writing this book!

I hope this review helps you with your quest.

your humble reviewer.

Summary: Small with lots of typos
Review: Even with the tremendous number of mistakes and typos, this is still a nice compact review book to read while you're on the subway or don't feel like lugging a >800 page C++ primer around. You still need to have a good C++ reference and tutorial book, though.

Summary: Superb, practical, perfect first time C++ book
Review: Great first book for learning C++. The only deficiency is in the index. The book is very practical with examples rather than the vague, verbal, stilted prose found in other books.

Summary: Great choice for beginners/ quick reference!
Review: Hubbard's Programmming with C++ is an excellent choice for beginners and quick reference.

The book is not intended to provide a large amounts of info on C++, but to help you understand the basic concepts at first. Perfect if you're taking CS1 or anything alike...

Buy this book only if you're a newbie and are looking for something to study the basic concepts from, NOT for reference and detailed explanations/ information (I'd recommend Deitel's instead).

Overall, a very good choice. Clear, concise explanations... lots of excercises and examples... the only negative thing I see about it, is the lack of some basic subjects such as Lists and Files. Still, that's not very bad!

Summary: great handy but useful book
Review: I bought this book after I took one semester of programing class with C++, just to freshen my memory by solving many problems. it was very useful, after all, then when I started to take the next programing course, I felt very comfortable. if you think about this price and the ingredients, it is a great buy. i have other C++ books for more detail references. the best part of this book is that you can try all the problems if you want since all the problems have solutions, so you can check right after you solve the problems. (please check for some mistakes in the programs -- you will find out if you write your own programs and run them) I highly recommend this book.

Summary: USELESS BOOK
Review: I bought this book as a catch up tool for some things I am having problems with in a regular class on C++. After finding numerous code errors (verified by "real" programmers), I contacted the publisher and was asked to submit my own corrections. I laughed till I screamed! I bought the book to learn to program C++ not to be an unpaid proofreader (as if I could)!

If you want to learn something from the beginning/intermediate level--DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS BOOK!!

Summary: This is an EXCELLENT book
Review: I have purchased several C++ books, and this one is by far, the best...
This book makes a great subway companion, and it's not a 1,000 page monster. I love the way the author explained pointers. He uses simple graphics to visualize memory...but they are very effective...
