Rating: Summary: Book is very detailed, didn't like the format of the exams Review: 22 chapters of easy reading and understanding, but didn't like the practice and final exam questions.
Rating: Summary: Great Source Review: Horrible book that makes no sense. I recently bought a router and was looking for a book that could show me how to make some nice wood work. So I jumped on google.com and type in router books and sure enough this book came up. It got some good reviews so I purchased it.... When the book came in I read it just to discover this book didn't even touch the subject of using a router. Instead it talked about protocols and switching. Who in their right mind would want a book on that crap??? The use for this book is for someone trying to get their CCNA or something, which in that case I am sure it is a great book but I just want to drill holes. Do not buy this book......
Rating: Summary: Awesome book..... Review: Love this book reading it now. A few typos but it explains extreamly complex matter in a clear concise matter. Its for the 2.0 but it works either.
Rating: Summary: Timing is everything. Review: Robert Larson's CCNA book is well written and detailed far beyond the exam objectives of the CCNA exam. His knowledge of the subject matter is exceedingly evident with each page and each chapter. The drawback to the book is the timing, this book should have been released several months back. The 1,100 page reference manual starts off with the standards and the importance of why we have these standards. Then comes the OSI model breakdown, hitting the exam objectives right on the head. Next you get and look into topologies and access methods. I was impressed with the breakdown of IP addressing, subnetting and NAT. The author really knows what he is talking about. Excellent coverage is provided for in the Router commands, setup and configuration sections. Other areas covered are NOS, ACLs, switching, WANS, PPP, ISDN and Frame Relay. Included at the end of each chapter is review questions and there is a cd with hundreds of practice questions. If the timing was better the book would be a best seller.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, detailed, must have reference Review: This book goes into details than all other CCNA books. There are some of the typos in the book but it's ok. It has detailed information than the Sybex CCNA Study Guide. The sybex book has enough information for you to pass the exam, too. I used both books for the study of the CCNA exam. This book has 22 chapters and the organization of the book is better than the Sybex one. Expecially the topic on switching, this book does a better job than Sybex. It has detailed explainations, router configuration examples, and some pictures on the demonstration of problems and solutions. One of the drawback is that this book is more expensive than other CCNA books, but you will probably find some places sell it cheaper. It's also a good reference for you too keep after you passed the exam.
Rating: Summary: Excellent writing! Review: This book was excellent! It was extremely helpful in taking large, abstract concepts and explaining them in "down-to-earth" language. Mr. Larson had the foreknowledge to refresh the reader on previous knowledge. When I took the CCNA, 95% of the book covered the topics on the exam. Excellent book!
Rating: Summary: Great Source Review: This is a great book for someone who needs a comprehensive and well-written guide for the CCNA course. It is applicable to the new 604 exam as well. Best technical book I have read so far!
Rating: Summary: good book, bad CD Review: This is a well written all around book. There are the usual mistakes such as telling the student that the first useable IP address is the gateway for that subnet. My only other criticism would be the practice questions. The practice tests are awful and look as if they where rushed to production (IP is used in one question where they clearly intended to use IPX). If you have this book or will be buying it to study for the CCNA I strongly recommend getting the "Transcender" tests.
