Rating: Summary: This book is available... Review: ...I read a chapter of the book at a bookstore and my opinion is it is good if you want more practice questions to add to other resources you are already using. (I know it is kind of funny the way review question and answers are numbered)
Rating: Summary: Gave me a headache Review: After reading this book to prepare for the ITProject+ exam, I have one thing to say... CompTIA says this book is ok? ... I read this from start to finish and after getting finishing it, I failed the exam. Not prepared at all and Not Sybex quality AT ALL.
Rating: Summary: Lackluster Review: I found the the book verbose, not clear or concise and difficult to structure for studying. The editor should have held him to no more than 350 pages. You come away from a chapter having to circle back and write your own summaries because the author 1) Did not provide you with topical summaries that actually summarize what he talked about - he just states that he talked about them. 2) Did not structure the chapter such that he fully completes one topic before moving on to another. Lastly I found many of his examples to be excessive in quantity and overly simplistic in content.
Rating: Summary: Gave me a headache Review: I read alot of technical and managemnt books, However this book is by far the worst I have ever....ever...seen. The book does not focus on the test objectives very well at all. The author writes "I have...." "I will..." "I....". Just really really bad.I find that the point of the section head is not made or address very well at all. I'm so disappointed! It seems to me that Sybex must be requiring their authors to create fluff to make the books so thick. This is just a book on BS. About the only plus is the testing engine is a good quiz tool assuming the questions follow to book closely. If another product come on the market, all things being equal.....buy it...site unseen......buy it....how could it be any worse? Erin

Rating: Summary: Good book for people starting in IT Project management Review: I'm very new to Project management. This book was written in a clear structure and easy to understand.
Rating: Summary: Outdated and not impressive to begin with Review: Skip this book, it is outdated by the PK0-002 exam. Plus it doesn't have much substance to begin with. Look for a book that is revised for the PK0-002 exam in Amazon or ebay.
Rating: Summary: Not a great study guide, but good enough to help pass Review: This book could have gone through another iteration during its planning phase. The author seems to be trying to do two different things: 1) Teach good project management and 2) create a study guide for the CompTIA IT Project+ certification. As anyone knows when you try to serve two audiences you ultimately serve neither. As far as a PM book goes, this is so-so. You will not know how to run a project from this book as the author glosses over major topics and muddles topics together to make everything fit into the objectives of the exam which makes it very hard to follow at times and you will find yourself jumping back and forth in the book. There are also too few examples to drive home the process. As a study guide, well there is a fairly decent CD full of questions that will help you memorize concepts and terms. I found the questions to be a little easier than they should be and did not cover everything that is covered on the exam. More importantly, the terminology in the test does not match the terminology in the book! However, with some study, some experience, and this book you should be able to pass the IT Project+ test.
Rating: Summary: Still has wrong answers Review: This book is still filled with wrong answers in its chapter tests. An example of this can be found in a question in chapter 1 that doesn't even get covered until chapter 2. I expect so much better from Sybex!!!!
Rating: Summary: lack logical, seemless flow - incomplete, incomprehensible Review: This book might be an ideal example of how you can stick strictly to a project plan - in this case: meeting all the exam objectives - and end up with a incomplete and less than perfect product. The author spent an unnecessarily lengthy and repititive coverage on chapter 2,3,4,5 on working out a project scope, then suddenly decided to change pace and put planning, scheduling, set up a project team, formulating quality control, Grantt chart, PERT diagram all in one chapter 7. While I expect a planning charter to talk about how/what/why of planning - this author stick to the exam objective and explain how important it is to id all the stakeholder (didn't we do it in chapter 2,3,4,5?) and must communicate with them the project status/meeting (Sure this is important - but can we start planning?). Then - he still does not talk about planning how/what/why - he ask you to established the method to track the project progress (the whole idea of plannig is so that we can track the project - plan first, then track - but this author do it the other round - decide how to track - then plan). Then - without warning you poor planning cause project failure - he launch into the "fact" that a project plan is consist of task + activity + phase. The effect is like explaining the movie "Indiana Jones" is consist of man+woman+child going through certain phase of their live. I kind of decide not to persue CompTIA certification at this point. Perhaps the author would fair better if he did not stick so closely to the project plan of writing this book.
