Summary: Passed A+ with this. Can't wait for his Security+ Exam Guide
Review: I just demolished both A+ exams after reading this great book. Although I do have some experience, this guide helped me sharpen up for the test. This guy also has a Security+ book coming out called The Security+ Exam Guide. I can't wait to get it and ace Security+ next...
Thank you, thank you...

Summary: Buy This Book and Pass the Test!
Review: I just passed (January 2003) both A+ exams using this book! Knowing the information in this book will enable you to pass both exams. The nature and scope of the material and review questions are right on target when compared to the actual exam. The author claims that if you correctly answer all test questions and understand the theory behind the questions that you may possibly pass the test. I will say that you WILL pass the test after reading the book two or three times, understanding the theory, and missing no more than one or two questions on the final practice tests.

He arranges the A+ material differently than other authors: by subject rather than by CompTIA objective. Saw one review that said this is a weakness: I had no problem with his approach. This book has up-to-date hints about the test questions that I didn't read in any of the other books. Also, his one-line test tips for Windows 9x, NT, and Windows 2000 were good.

In addition to this book, I would buy one of more of the current A+ references, like Charles J Brooks' A+ Certification Training Guide, Mike Meyers' A+ Certification Exam Guide, or even the or even the Microsoft A+ Certification Training Kit. Even though you could pass both A+ exams with this book and a reference book, I would also buy other adaptive study guides, like Mike Meyers' A+ Certification book in his Passport series because although both book cover the required objectives, each book covers different topics in detail beyond the test requirements.

PS. I tried the several practice tests on the included CD but didn't find them their questions all that difficult or cover anything new.

PPS. Forget the other cram/Q&A lists on the Internet: they are a mixed bag. Lot of their questions seemed copied from the major A+ books. The rest of unique questions are good things to know, but about mostly outdated topics not on the current tests. The quality of my two A+ cram/exam sheets were fair at best: typos, correct answers with incorrect explanations, and incorrect answers with correct explanations. Spend your money on another major A+ book.

Summary: Good overview
Review: I just passed my A+, I used Adaptive Exams and Exam Crams 2. Adaptive Exams seemed to be more straight forward and didn't give bad examples that were hard to understand. The only thing when using Adaptive Exams, is you do need to have a basic understanding of computers.

If you have a general background and want a book that's short and to the point, this is the book for you.

Summary: I not only passed! I scored perfect with this book!
Review: I only have one thing to say. I recieved perfect scores on both the 220 and 221 A+ tests using this book. Ok two things, use this book and you will ace these exams as well!

Summary: I scored PERFECT on both parts with this book ...
Review: I probably would have passed both parts of the exam without any study. But because of this book, I scored PERFECT on both parts of the newer, Adaptive 2001 Objective version.

Even if you aren't an experienced PC tech, this book will give you 50% of the answers you'll see on the exam. I've never seen a book as close to the real exam as this one.

And it's a fairly good reference in general, despite it's lower cost and page count than most. The only thing missing are good graphics and pictures of components. But you shouldn't need those if you have at least a little hands-on knowledge.

Summary: Outstanding easy to follow study guide!
Review: I read this book 3 times from cover to cover. I took the included practice exams several times until I was averaging 85% every single time. I passed both tests with ease the first time. Of course I also used a few study guides I found for free on the web. I studied for about a month before I took both exams. This book should be at the top of everyone's list. It offers nononsense study material. It doesn't fill your head with lots of theory, only what you need to pass the exams. Of course, it does help to have actual experience with pc maintenance too.

Summary: Right to the point with good sample exams
Review: I read this book in two weeks after reading A+ Certification Training Kit, Third Edition from Microsoft Press and this book definitely covers exactly what you will see on the exam with only a couple of surprises. I would highly recommend this book for anyone trying to finish up your 2001 A+. There were a few errors in the test engine but if you tested with all of the sample examples it was very easy to figure out. You definitely save money over buying a pricey sample test. Scored 912 on Core and 946 on OS. Very good. Randall (Randy) Hughes MCSE, CCNA, CCAI and now A+!!!

Summary: Good, not perfect...
Review: I really liked this book because it does NOT waste time... I would like to give this book a 5 star rating.. BUT I can not because there are a few errors in it that stick out to me. You need to watch for them. I dont feel they would really mess you up when taking the exams, and alot of them are mis types/ wrong words in the wrong places. (there are literally too many to list) so I will not bother.
It is true.. I feel that if you read this book you can easily pass the test. It is MUCH shorter then other books and really gets to the point which I feel is a plus if your plan is to ONLY pass the test. (good for review) If you want to REALLY learn the stuff, buy a spare PC get copies of the os's and a more detailed book!
For me the book is perfect!.

Summary: Just what the A+ Student needs
Review: I think a lot of A+ students are looking for this kind of book: just what they need to study and know to pass the exams, without all the other background information and additional material.

A+ students just starting with computers really need something that is portable, instantly informative and gives them enough to get them started as a PC tech. This book does just that. Gives them what they need to pass the exams and get started working with computers.

The opening section on Computer Adaptive Testing really sets the standard for the rest of the book. This is critical information that really gives the student an edge in the exam room.

Finally an A+ book that covers Windows NT as thoroughly as the CompTIA exams!

Summary: Great last minute reference before tests!
Review: I was amazed at how well I did on both A+ certs after using this book as final prep for the tests. This book not only helped me fine tune my knowledge for the tests, it has helped with real hands on troubleshooting with operating systems. Great book!
