Summary: A very good source for the A+ exams.
Review: A+ has become the foundation by which almost all computer technicians are judged. Passing that exam, which is now adaptive, shows that you have the ability to work in most first level technical positions. Having taught the class several time over the past 10 years I am always looking for material to enhance the class.

This book, while only 360 pages, makes a great addition to my technical library and an excellent reference manual to work with before taking the actual exams. The book covers both sets of objectives and gives you the ability to learn as you test.

Section one of the book covers the 220-221 exam or the Core objectives, while section 2 covers the 220-222 exam or the operating system technologies. What the author does is accentuate the major points of the exams with review questions, tips and tricks throughout the book.

There are several practice exams demos include on the cd such as Transcender and Exam Essentials, however there is also Test Taker software with 4 exams for each major exam, which should provide you with a good amount of questions.

Overall with some study and practice from this book, you should have a very good chance of passing the exams first time.

Summary: Don't waste your time...
Review: Don't waste your time reading and preparing for the test using this book. It is very basic and not thorough at all. The test engine is weak and the book chapters are not on the CD. I suggest reading the Sybex title on A+ certification.

Summary: Great book!
Review: Having read a lot of information I found on the internet, I didn't think I would need another book, until I read CompTIA's information on what their core standards are, and how their new adaptive test works. I found this book to be amazing with the information it gave you, most of which was found on the test. I can happily say I passed, with the help of this book.

Summary: I passed both tests in less than 30 min!
Review: I am one of those people everyone calls when they have a computer problem. Since '94 I've been tinkering with PC's and it kind of came natural to me...or rather I had no problem digging through the help files and later the net.

So since I am constantly providing tech support and tweaking windows I figured I might as well get certified. This book really did teach me a few new things, mainly about the differences in windows OS versions (although XP is missing here, but not a problem for the test). It also forced me to memorize I/O addresses and IRQs for stuff you hardly ever have to mess with.

The best thing I can recommend is read the book and take the CD included tests every day for 3 or 4 weeks or until you can score 100% every time on all tests. Then three days before the test take the paper test in the book and all the tests at the end of the chapters. That with some hands on experience will allow you to pass the test easily.

Now I knocked a star off because there were errors on the tests on the CD ROM. The fact I noticed they were errors (i.e. answers correctly but was told the answer was wrong) speaks highly of the book. However, I am a person who best remembers things by taking the tests over and over. A wrong answer there could throw you on the real deal.

Also there were things on the test not covered in the book, but even if I had gotten all of those wrong I still could have passed. If you have a lot of hands on you should be able to deduce the answer easily enough. Is it fdisk /mbr or format /mbr that repairs a Master Boot Record? NEVER saw that on in the book but if you have reloaded a few machines in your time or tried to keep from having to reload them, this one wouldn't throw you.

Hope this helps

Summary: Essential to pass this exam
Review: I bought this book along with Ron Gilster's "A+ Certification for Dummies." The Dummies book is a great opener for the exam. It gives you a great glimpse over everything, and I'd say after reading it. You are 65% ready to pass. THIS BOOK WILL PUT YOU OVER THE TOP. I read this book by Chris Crayton about 12 times over two weeks. I passed the test yesterday 943 Core, 1048 O/S.

Summary: super exam cram for someone with some experience
Review: i bought this book due to glowing recommendations it received right here at Amazon. it didn't disappoint.
buy it with an accurate self appraisal of your knowledge. if you basically know your stuff, and need to tweak your knowledge for the A+ exam, learn this book well and you'll crush the A+ exam, in fact you'll find it laughably easy if you LEARN AND KNOW this book.
but if you're of lesser experience, or just starting out, mike meyers' big A+ All in One book might be a good idea, good background and more detailed explanations, but even at that, i'd still recommend the crayton book, using it afterwards as a good cram book, you'll score higher.

Summary: I passed new A+ tests with this book.
Review: I bought this book for fifteen bucks. Used it as my only guide and passed both of the new A+ test. I rate this book 10 big stars....

Summary: Passed A+ easily with this best selling A+ book.
Review: I got this book based on its best selling rating and other reviews. It delivered exactly what everyone said. I studied this A+ book for one week and received my A+ Certification. I am glad I took a shot and did it before the A+ exams change to the new tests. I especially liked the format of the book. It explained only the main issues you need to know for the test. It was right in line with the true exams.
Now I need to fine a great Network+ book.

Summary: This is the one book to use for A+!
Review: I have three years experience troubleshooting computers and networks as a tech. I used two other popular A+ books to prepare myself for the A+ exams. I passed the Core exam but failed the Operating Systems part. Then I got this book. Let me tell you, I passed the OS exam with flying colors! If you want to pass, get this book!

Summary: This is it!
Review: I highly recommend this book. This is all you need to study for the exam. I read the book twice and practiced the exams on the CD and was able to score a 937 on the hardware portion of the the test, and the test stopped after 20 questions. This is an excellent study aid, however if you are interested in learning everything, I highly recommend Mike Meyers book as well. But if you are just interested in passing the exam, BUY THIS BOOK.
