Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Useful Guide Review: A decent book for beginners, but I found many of the collected articles slight. Perhaps the most frustrating point was many of the links--though the book claims it is updated and revised 2001--didn't work. Many of the websites listed for promoting had vanished from the web. Overall though worth the price.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Good Book - Bad Links! Review: After two years of promoting my first book using primarily offline tactics, this book opened up a broader market for my less than new title. Some of the articles sounded more self-promotional than reader-supportive, but I also came away with about a dozen ideas to apply to my online promotion of my self-published book (How To Make Your Business Run Without You) and will become part of my promotion of future books. As with many of the comments already stated, many of the site links no longer exist, yet this is not due to author neglect but to the speed of change on the internet. It would have been nice for the authors to list a link of their own that had updated resource information. Still -- for my [money], this was a good buy.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Online Dreams Come True ! Review: By Accident, I met MJ Rose a year ago, at the VA Festival of the Book. That one afternoon changed my entire approach to how I produce and market my books and writings. From that moment, I ate and drank everything I could find about MJ Rose and how she did what she did. I studied her methods like a College course. I applied them. They worked. Along the way, MJs material introduced me to Angela Adair- Hoy and Booklocker.com. I then absorbed all I could find on Adair-Hoy. I studied what she was saying. I applied it. It worked. Now a co-authored book by these two women. If there were 10 stars to give, I would give 50. This book of theirs is hugely inspirational and factual, and when applied, will bring you success ! This book is about how they followed their own instincts, which often is against the norm of publishing. Is it is any wonder, they are not as successful as they are? 'How to Publish & Promote Online' is presented with the sensitivity towards the writers of us out here, who choose the business of our writing to be as exciting and creative as the creating of the writing. Along with the How-To's from Angela & MJ are many other essays and how to's from other leading self-publishers, as well as all of the where to go's to market your books and the who what when of it all ! I have yet to read it all, and am trying to find places to hide so that I can ! The closing comment in the introduction of MJ Rose states this: 'One thing we know, the World Wide Web is one place where dreams do come true.' I personally can attest to that, and this book of MJ's & Angela's is catapulting me further and faster than I could have ever imagined. I am sincerely grateful for the generosity given by these two writers before the book ever came out, and for covering all bases, and saving me so much time and effort, by giving me all I need and MORE to be all that I can be in this endeavor. Buy this Book, it will move you forward with momentum ! To Your Success ! Susan James, Author of: 'Manifesting 101 :Essays & Tools for Creating' (Paperback) & Soon to be released from Booklocker.com in E-book & Paperback, '17 Seconds to Wt.Loss/The Guide'.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An absolutely terrific book! Review: Everything--I mean EVERYTHING--you ever wanted to know about self-publishing hard copies and e-books. This book ought to have cost more based on its contents. Very thorough. But very easy reading.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Out of date, Self Promotional, Stuffed with useless lists Review: First, most of the references in the book are out of date. Many times the author would list a website that seemed interesting and I would try to go to it only to get the "page not found" message. Second, the book is stuffed with "lists" of useless information that seem to be put there to take up space rather than to be of any use to the reader. Third, much of the book is writen by "guest authors" each of whom have a product to sell (their book, their newsletter, their service, etc.) and their articles are shamelessly self-promotional. When we're not reading guest articles, the author herself gives us a hard sell on her other publishing services, books, etc. You feel like you're just reading a never ending series of commercials! In the end, there's nothing in this book that you don't know already by common sense. It was a terrible mistake.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Why WOULDN'T you get this book? Review: Having recently published a book of my Public Radio essays...I don't understand how any author could pass this book up. It is absolutely crammed with advice you can use immediately. Any author or publisher who overlooks the Internet as a promotional powerhouse will be left WAY behind in this electronic revolution. If you are an author, for heaven's sake, BUY THIS BOOK! If you have to take the money from your grocery budget, do so. You will not regret it. ...
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Lots of information, but I was disappointed. Review: I found a lot of useful information here, but not enough to take me step by step through my ebook project. With all the information divided into separate articles, I felt I could not pull all the information I needed into one place. I pulled out the information I could use, and was forced to find additional information elsewhere to finish the project.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Nothing new, very superficial Review: I have read a lot about publishing, self publishing and promoting lately, but though many books devote a chapter or so to online efforts, I was looking forward to reading about online publishing and promoting in more detail. I was thoroughly disappointed by this book. It is not a comprehensive manual, but a series of (VERY) short essays, most of them not going beyond the obvious. For example, there is a section on using public speaking to promote yourself and your book. It sites just one website as the ultimate source to look at for speaking opportunities-- shawguides.com-- and while I'm sure this is a fine site, it is not applicable to the vast majority of writers out there. It is a shame the authors didn't take the time to do any further research to make the book more widely relevant, or to provide real resources on many of the topics they address. If you are a total, and I mean total novice to computers and the internet-- for example, if you don't know much about word processing programs or what a newsgroup is-- this book may be helpful to you. But if you come into this with any prior knowledge whatsoever, no matter how basic, you may find this book a complete waste of money.
