Rating: Summary: An Invaluable Study Guide! Review: Reading past reviews about this book, I decided to use it, in addition to the ICRC student guide, to take the exam. I passed the first time because of this book. Even though the actual exam questions are harder, the study guide's review questions after every chapter will greatly increase your odds. I highly recommend it to anyone!!!
Rating: Summary: Nice book Review: This book will give good coverage of the requirements to pass the CCNA exam but is NOT a substitute for experience and lab practice. If you have not been to ICRC or read the ICRC book, it would be extrememly beneficial to do so before taking this exam.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book for a review prior to CCNA test Review: The book has exactly what it I expected it to have - a quick and easy overview to help you prepare for a CCNA test. Easy to read, and the practice questions really helped.
Rating: Summary: Get some hands-on if you want to pass the test. Review: If you have this book and at least one or two routers, you can pass this test the first time, just like the cover says. Go through the practice questions over and over again. Make sure you practive hands-on with passwords, hostname, banners, etc. Read chapter two about switching because you will get switching questions. Also, you must know your IP protocols and subnetting. Chapter one has what you need to know about the OSI. I recommend this book over any other Cisco book for your CCNA.
Rating: Summary: I used this book with routers and passed the first time. Review: I received my $250 Cisco 804 router and borrowed a friends 2501 router to create a small lab. I read this book, practiced the labs and then went through every review question twice. I received a 93% on my very first try. I recommend this book to everyone. I had look at the Syngress book, but it is not even close to being as good as this book. If you want to pass the Cisco CCNA exam, then this is the book.
Rating: Summary: The World According to Cisco Review: I'm a BayNetworks Certified Router Specialist, and used this book as my sole study guide to the CCNA, which I passed easily. The test is alot harder than the test questions on the CD, but if you know routing/routers, this may be all you need. If you're a newbie to this topic, take the class...
Rating: Summary: Excellent! - for what it is. Review: The title claims that it's, "Everything you need to know to pass the new CCNA routing & switching exam". I passed the exam, and this study guide definitely contributed towards *refining* my knowledge to get the passing score. However, to say you'll pass the test by simply reading this book is a bit of a stretch. It was years of practical experience in the networking industry coupled with this book that I credit for allowing me to pass. If one is only going to do self-studying, I would recommend the Cisco ICRC book in addition to this study guide to have a big enough 'safety net' to pass the test with an above average score. As I say, one could probably pass the test with this guide alone IF you've been in networking for a while (I did - just barely). Nevertheless, I do think that the authors achieved what they set out to do with the book and that it deserves 5 stars. Considering that Cisco's training partners charge between $5-7K for what they perceive as the recommend courses to take before taking the CCNA exam, it's an excellent value for the money. I can't wait for Lammle's CCNP & CCDA study guides.
Rating: Summary: An excellent study guide for the CCNA exam Review: This book has almost everything you need for this exam. For the most part it is right on target with the exam objectives. In my opinion, this book is worth every penny you spent. It is well written with lots of examples. The network diagrams are nicely done comparing to the other book by Syngress. The author has gone a good job in putting everything you need to know into one small package. I would be interested in the CCNP-ACRC book written by the same author. Unless it is drastically different and prove me wrong, I am now a fan of this author. a CCNA and MCSE+Internet from Canada
Rating: Summary: Excellent book!!! Review: I have bought this book following the opinion of Masud (he left a review) and I agree with him, this is the book to pass your CCNA exam.
Rating: Summary: The World According to Cisco Review: As a Certified Bay Networks Router Specialist, I found this presentation of Cisco routing/routers an easy read, aside from a few minor technical and editing errors. This book won't give you the questions on the test, but if you have router experience on other vendor's products, it's a shortcut to taking the $$$ Cisco classes. I passed easily, but you must know your fundamentals and read between the lines. The CD is nice, but don't let those example questions fool you... you won't see more than 5 that are that easy. If you're new to routing & routers, start elsewhere. Overall, it's definitely worth the money, and looks kewl on the shelf!
