Summary: A Great Book!
Review: I'm not going to try CCNA test for now, but this book helped me a lot! I had to configure some Cisco routers in an Internetwork, where there would be IP and IPX traffic. Never before had I configured IPX on Cisco routers, and this book showed me all the exact commands to place on the Cisco routers and even how to configure access-lists in order to filter unnecessary IPX traffic. It was an outstanding experience! It was worth the price! What I think is very interesting about this book is that it doesn't concentrate too much in data communications theory - there are lots of good books on this issue already. This one gives a small review on the important issues and concentrates on teaching which commands to use, how to use them and the like. That was what I needed! Two friends of mine have just ordered one copy each!

Summary: A good resource, in a hard topic!!!
Review: I am a student that is taking Cisco Classes at my high school, this book is helping me pass some of the tests, that can be rather difficult.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Book
Review: This book gives everything you need to pass. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the test no more difficult that the MCSE tests, so don't be intimidated. Study this book thoroughly, do the questions and get your hands on the hardware. That's all you need to do. Good Luck!

Summary: Passed first time....Thanks to this book
Review: This book was right on. It layed out the exam objectives with perfection. If you study each chapter and do the review questions on the CD continously, you will be very happy!

Summary: Excellent preparation material for the CCNA exam.
Review: This book covers the largest part of what you will need to know for the exam. It is written well, but be sure to check the errata page at the sybex site as there are some errors. (there are also some that are not yet reported, be careful of those).

The intended audience for this book is *not* a LAN administrator wishing to upgrade his/her skills. You should have some WAN experience and access to Cisco equipment before buying this book or attempting the exam. MCSE's and CNE's who passed their exams without real hands on experience will be in for a nasty surprise if they try to pass this exam the same way.

The questions in this book are excellent (again, watch out for errors!) and bear directly on the exam. The CD is not very useful as it is simply a duplicate of the questions at the end of each chapter in the book.

If you are looking for a free ride to passing the CCNA exam, look elsewhere. If you are a systems professional with practical WAN and Cisco experience looking to obtain your certification, this is the book for you.

Summary: Clearly written with good content, but the CD was worthless.
Review: I used hands-on experience and this book to pass the test. I found that this book was very good in most areas, however, there were several errors in the IP subneting chapter.

The CD as a waste of time. All the questions were mirrors of the questions in the book, and the Hercules testing program often tells you that you have answered a question wrong, but then when you check their explanation you answered it correctly. It looks like they shipped the CD with bugs in their demo.

CD aside, this is a good study guide. I found the first 6 chapters to be the most benifitial. (except for the ip subneting errors) I passed the CCNA on the first try.

Summary: This is a great book!!!!!!!!!
Review: I strongly recommend this book for anyone preparing for the test. It is excellent. I took the test and passed it the first time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book covers the exam.
Review: I have just finished the exam. For someone that has never worked on routers, switches or bridges, I found that the book taught me everything I needed to know for the exam. I had only one question that was not covered in the book. If you study this book, do some hands-on and KNOW THE PRE-TEST QUESTIONS, you will pass. If not, find another certification.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best of the study guides
Review: I also used the McGraw Hill book. This one is more specific to the test though. My advice is to skip the others and use this one.

Summary: This is a good book to prepare for the exam. However,
Review: This is a good book to prepare for the exam .However, I think Cisco's recently published ICRC book is a much better reference guide. I am a MCSE , MCP+I, and just got my CCNA two days ago, I focused part time on this book one week, and got 80%, and I read the ICRC book after test to find out lots of info was there. If I had spared some time on ICRC , I would have got higher score for sure. Of cause , if you can put your hands on routers, it will guanrantee your first time pass . Good luck.
