Rating: Summary: One of the best sources for CCNA Review: Combine this book with Cisco's, know well your OSI and you'll pass.Do the Network+ first to practice..
Rating: Summary: A great help! Review: A great book, easy to read, not without humor, and a wealth of info. I passed the CCNA first time up with this book and Chappell's ICRC, and a few routers I have layin' around at work (believe me, that luxury isn't lost on me). For test purposes alone, I recommend this book over the ICRC book. Both are great, but this is better geared towards the test. To all aspiring CCNA's, know your stuff and you'll do fine. Know the IOS, data encapsulation, and the OSI model inside and out!
Rating: Summary: The best book for the CCNA. Review: If you want to pass the new CCNA exam, then this is the book for you. I passed the first time. Thanks Todd! I also bought his new CCDA book, which is really good. I will test on that next week. Buy this book and the Routersim product to get the hands on you need. I have both the Routersim and routers, and I used the labs from the Routersim product to set my routers up. Great book and product.
Rating: Summary: Best CCNA book on the market. Review: If you want to pass the new CCNA exam, then this is your book. It has all subjects covered in an error-free, easy to read format. The review questions are close to what you'll see on the exam, and you can use routersim.com to get the hands-on you need for Cisco routers. I recommend this book highly, as well as the Sybex CCNA Notes book.
Rating: Summary: Best study guide to become CCNA Review: I could pass CCNA using this study guide. Althogh book itself seems to have huge volume, networking concepts and related explanation is very easy to understand. Review questions at each chapter are very helpful, too.
Rating: Summary: Fluff, errors, not explanatory; maybe help pass but... Review: Poorly written with lots of fluffy/chatty cuteness. Doesn't explain how or why things work the way they do (like why you'd use IGRP instead of RIP). Lots of chatter on stuff like OSI model but nothing that aids understanding. We found errors in the text and questions/answers -- three different versions of the errors in three different 1999 printings in our small sample of 15 people. Naugle's Network Protocol Handbook is much better at the lower level explanations but it's terribly written too. Chris Lewis' TCP/IP on Cisco book -- in contrast -- is terrific at explaining the hows and whys, and it doesn't insult one's intelligence. A pleasure to read and really good at helping understand. But if the goal is simply to pass some arbitrary certification test, then maybe the Lammle book is useful. Seems a symptom of the current grope-n-poke certification mentality: don't think, just answer. I'm looking forward to getting into more meaty routing info but hope to avoid Lammle/Sybex in the future.
Rating: Summary: Believe the Hype! Review: I picked up this book after seeing the great reviews on Amazon.com. These people were right! After receiving the book, I studied it thoroughly for about 2 months before I took the test. I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS! Not only have I become a CCNA, but have also learned a great deal more about WANs and network routing/switching. Buy this book, study it and pass the test. It's almost a given...
Rating: Summary: 2 Thumbs Up !! Review: An Excellent source of material for the budding CCNA candidate. Has almost everything you need to secure the CCNA stature. Coupled with CCNA Jumpstart(especially those new to network & terminology)& the Exam Cram series, you're on your way!
Rating: Summary: Well organized with sufficient detail Review: This book coupled with one of the online practice exams is all that you need to pass the CCNA exam. The book does assume that you have a grasp of networking fundamentals and terminaology. Prior exposure to Cisco routers is helpful, but not an absolute requirement. I would have given the book a five star rating if the chapter end questions and especially the practice test at the end of the book were more realistic. The practice test CD included with the book is woefully short of the real thing.
Rating: Summary: GOOD BOOK TO PREPARE THE CCNA EXAMINATION Review: It is the good book to prepare the ccna examination. If you have fully understand the content of the book, you will have pass it even though you do not have any hand on experience of the cisco router.
