Summary: right book for the right exam
Review: I took the CCNA exam yesterday ,and passed it with a score of 916/1000,using this book as my only reference. It is a very well written, easy to understand book. It has almost all the objects covered in detail, except WAN technologies. You must know OSI, router commands, IP/IPX rounting, WAN, and a bit about access list. I recommend this book and some hands-on experience.

Summary: This book is in no way a complete introduction!
Review: This book's coverage of the objectives is very superficial. The fact that the appendices make up over 40% of the text is a clear indication that this book lacks real content. I would recommend using other sources in addition to this, not only for passing exam 640-407 but also, for a more complete view of routing and its application in today's LANs and WANs. It seems to me that this book is best suited for someone having a lab or using Todd's Routersim product. If you have either of these, doing the labs will go a long way in preparing you for the exam. I passed with an 897 and there is no way I would have done it with this book alone.

Summary: Why not be both a CCNA and CCDA
Review: This book, the CCDA book, and the Cisco beginners guide are all u need. The beginners guide was written by CCNA & CCDA certified people and really helped fill in the blanks. The CCNA & DA study guides finished the job. Why not be both a CCNA and CCDA, I am & these three books helped.

Summary: Excellent Reading
Review: This book was the main source of knowledge that helped me pass the CCNA exam.

Summary: Cost Effective Certification
Review: I had work buy this book and I bought the exam notes... and between the two I scored 878 (would have have 900+ but once you click next the only thing you can do is say doh....) the book is all I used so it must be great.

Summary: Enough for CCNA with some experience of your own
Review: Got my CCNA (score: 900+) with this book and some experience. Highly recommended.

Summary: Warning
Review: Warning, this book does NOT cover in detail, everything that you need. I successfully completed the CCNA exam yesterday using only this book as my study reference, and passed with flying colours as a result. HOWEVER... WAN technologies, an area of the book covered by one light chapter (11), was not covered in anywhere near enought detail. I am a Novell CNE, and hold a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, and relied heavily on these assets as well as experience to get past a number of areas that were either NOT covered in the book, or NOT covered in enough detail. Also, the exam on the cd is simply a computerized version of those quizzes in the book, and is nto a good test sampler at all. Overall though, I would fairly recommend this book to others, as I could not have passed the exam without it.

Summary: Warning
Review: Warning, this book does NOT cover in detail, everything that you need, irregardless of those reviews that say otherwise. I successfully completed the CCNA exam yesterday using only this book as my study reference (I read it twice), and passed with flying colours as a result. HOWEVER... WAN technologies, an area of the book covered by one light chapter (11), was not covered in anywhere near enough detail. I am a Novell CNE, and hold a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, and relied heavily on these assets as well as experience to get past a number of areas that were either NOT covered in the book, or NOT covered in enough detail. Also, the exam on the cd is simply a clunky, computerized identical version of those chapter quizzes in the book, and is not a good test sampler at all. Overall though, I would fairly recommend this book to others, as I could not have passed the exam without it.

Summary: For the price this book is worth it
Review: I passed today (860/1000) using this book and the CCNA Exam Notes. Make sure that you download the errata sheet for the book and also the new version of chapter 11 if you have the older version/edition. This book covered the material well and was easy to follow along with. NOTE: The exam was up to 80 questions, mine was 78, and you CANNOT mark questions and go back as the books indicate. You must answer the questions no looking back!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Definitely a good resource for CCNA Certification
Review: This study guide was right on the money as far as covering content and objectives. Some hands-on experience also doesn't hurt.
