Rating: Summary: Lammle is at it again and better than before! Review: I have been teaching computers for over 2 years and in that time I have used Todd Lammle's 1st edition of the CCNA Study Guide as a basis for the course outline. Todd Lammle is one of the most respected names in the industry and his new book is now updated for the latest CCNA exam, 640-507.As with the 1st edition, the book is detailed and extremely accurate. This book covers each exam objective by breaking them down into ten chapters and 750 plus pages. Starting with internetworking and what it takes to make a network, Lammle gives the basics in an easy to understand a follow manner. Adding Switching techniques is new and the detail is what you have come to expect from Lammle. TCP/IP is given more coverage and again Lammle makes the learning fun and easy. Moving on to the IOS and commands, IP Routing, VLANs, Network Management, Novell and access lists, WAN Protocols and an appendix that covers the Catalyst 1900 switch. There are diagrams, router screen shots, labs, hands-on exercises, practice questions, figures, tables and so much more. You have everything you need to pass this exam first time around. Lammle's attention to detail is what makes this the standout performer of the year. There is also a complete listing of the IOS commands used in the book coupled with one of the best glossaries I have ever seen. As if Lammle and Sybex haven't given you enough, that also included a cd-rom with the price of the book. The cd-rom has practice tests and electronic versions of he book as well as the "Dictionary of Networking". Rounding out the package is the e-Trainer Demo of the CCNA as well as utilities from Boson Software. Once again Lammle has taken the hard part out of exam preparation and all you have to do is study.
Rating: Summary: Buy it,Read it,Pass it Review: I am a CCNP1.0,and now ,I will study for the CCNP2.0 to learn something more.I bought all the Cisco study guide by Todd/sybex,so even I am a CCNP ,I also bought this book. Then I found it's worth,I think this book is very very good for everyone who learn Cisco, not only for the CCNA candidate. If you are a CCNP candidate, the book can build a solid foundation for your CCNP2.0.Someone review the book only give the great book only 2 stars and his reason is Todd Lammle isn't a CCIE?Does he think the paper is more important than knowledge?I really Can't agree. So,If you are a CCNA candicate, buy it;if you need some review of Cisco essentials, buy it.The book is so good.In my opinion,it's even better than the best-selling CCNA 1.0 study guide by Todd Lammle. And I suggest the CCNA candicate buy the routersim2.0 to get the hands-on. Thank you-Todd,Arthur has Merlin,we have you!
Rating: Summary: Must-have tool for the exam Review: I've just passed the exam last week with 850. Most of the topic and sample questions were replicated in the exam. I find no any reason nor excuse not to recommend this book to anyone who want to be a CCNA, especially in short preparation time frame of within a month. Besides, don't take the exam without going through all the mock questions on the CD ROM!
Rating: Summary: CCNA -640-407 Review: Yesterday I passed the exam with 878 . The exam was okay . The book covered almost all the topics . I used the exam cram and a lot of practice tests and braindumps from it2002.Download the updated wan chapter from sybex . It is absolutely essential . The practice questions are not up to the standard . A few isdn dialer commands are not covered which are very important . Download the errata as this book has still some printing mistakes . But is very good when compared to exam cram as far as errors are concerned . Hope this helps for your ccna . Good luck .

Rating: Summary: Helped me pass Review: I passed this exam on the first try, thanks in part to this book. I also like to credit my own hard work, but Amazon didn't provide me a space to review myself.
Rating: Summary: ok, but not written by a CCIE Review: I came out of the testing facility wishing I had stuck to Cisco Press. I read to many books and wasted time again! Sure this book would have done it but, while I was testing, the Cisco books came to mind when aswering the questions. I think that is how I was really able to tell the difference between the books. If you had asked me before the test I would have said the Sybex book is the choice because of the writing style but the style did not come to mind during testing, content did. The Sybex was not written by a CCIE or technically reviewed by a CCIE. I figured this out after the test...bummer for me. I should have done my reserch. I am glad the company bought the books, so glad!
Rating: Summary: Good Until July 31, 2000 Review: This is a well-written guide for the CCNA 640-407 exam. However, Cisco will be updating to a much more difficult test in August 2000 that will have fewer "easy" questions, and more advanced topics, such as VLAN configuration, etc. Still, it's a good reference for networking basics.
Rating: Summary: I passed the exam first time Review: It's an excellence book for the CCNA Exam. I passed the CCNA exam by studying this book and CCNA Exam Notes. It's easy to read and learn the basic Cisco....Good Luck!
Rating: Summary: Overall very useful w/ many resources; Still has some errors Review: This book had some errors, contradicting itself on separate questions involving where to place different types of access lists and giving an incorrect answer for which cable to use for connecting hub to hub (should've been crossover), etc. (on the practice exam). However, it did include a large database of questions (400), flashcards for PC and for Palm, and overall was much easier to read than most texts. While I did take an ICND course provided by my firm, this was my only other supplement (mostly for use in reviewing and taking the practice tests) and I passed on my first time with a 924. I would recommend this book, with the cautionary note that there are a few errors that might minorly test your faith. If you can get yourself to pass the practice exams quickly and understand the concepts behind the questions and answers, you'll do fine on the real test (640-507). Good luck!
