Summary: A good book with detailed information
Review: The structure of this book and the way that the author explains things make it easier to study for the CCNA 2.0 exam. What I like from this book is the written labs and review questions that help me review all that I've learnt but be carefull some of the answers are wrong!

This book covers more information than Cisco's ICND, such as the "tftp-server system" command, practice questions, and glosarry, but even so the Cisco's ICND is also a good one.

I used this book along with Cisco's ICND, Krang's router simulator, and Boson's practice exam and passed the test with 967 over 1000.

Summary: Excellent Study Guide
Review: I will look to Todd Lammle's books for future certifications. I passed my CCNA last week. No book will give you everything you need to pass an exam. A little experience and info from other sources is usually required. However, Todd's book gives you MOST of the info you need and it is very well explained. If your only goal is to learn subnetting this book is pure gold. I've been able to squeak by other exams containing subnetting but never had a solid grasp like I do now. If you have access to a router (or simulator) this book is all you'll need.

Summary: CCNA V2 Study Guide by Todd Lammle
Review: This is an excellent book and more than sufficient to pass CCNA V.2 Exam. I purchased this book just before 15 days of my exam.I scored 889 in first try, this is my first career exam.

Todd has covered all required topics which are easy to understand from basics.I suggest even for beginners to read this book. The beauty of this book is it is very cheap in price. All the best

Summary: worked for me!1
Review: I would definitely recommend this book. It was the only study guide I used to pass the CCNA 2.0 exam with an 848 (not the best, but I passed)on my first try. I also used the examcram web-site which was somewhat helpful. The CD was very helpful for memorizing questions/answers. Todd could have been a little more in depth on the WAN protocols, namely ISDN. I had a lot of questions related to routing and subnet masks, which i was able to do in my head, thanks to Todd. On to BCMSN....-RB

Summary: One of the worst technical books I've ever read...
Review: ...but I did pass.

I needed to pass the CCNA exam for work, and went looking around for books and found gleaming reviews of this book, so I bought it (bundled with the router sim). The book was poorly written (from an english perspective), technically incorrect (There are even eratta entries that are wrong), and overall a miserable read. He obviously heard the cliche, 'If you tell someone something 3 times, they'll remember it,' and took it altogether too literally. I firmly believe that this man was paid by the word.

Todd will, for example, setup a lab of a half dozen routers, make the same small change to each of them, and then fill the next 5 pages with the configuration output of each of the routers.

IOS allows you to simply type in enough of the command for it to be unique, and go on your way, which is very convenient, except that Todd uses different abbreviations each time, which leads to confusion.

The practice tests are worded poorly and are misleading and redundant. Some of them are even technically incorrect and you will spend hours going through errata and fixing the book. For a second edition, it still looks like a rough draft.

... I've know techies who have written books before and they were completly unreadable, though before they were sent to press, a competant and experienced editor would clean up the book, organize it logically, check the technical facts, and make the book an overall enjoyable read. This was clearly not the case with this book. I would assume that this book went straight from Todd to press, without the benefit of a second set of eyes.

The boxed set that comes with the book and the simulator CD is clearly a waste of money. The simulator is slow, doesn't respond to all (even some very commonly used) IOS commands, and is clearly just a crippled version of the router sim that Todd Lammle sells on his own website, to entice you to buy [thebetter] version.

I would recommend sticking to a publisher like O'Reilly that publishes readable, enjoyable, and technically potent books.

Well, that's about all I can say about that. I will say that I did pass the CCNA exam after reading and studing this book, but every second that I spent choking through this book was miserable...

Good luck finding a better book. -Dan

Summary: Definitely adequate to prepare for the exam, but has errors
Review: I just used this guide, along with the Lab Kit to pass the CCNA 2.0 exam. I used absolutely no other materials (although I do manage an assortment of Cisco equipment at my job), and I got a 924 out of 1000. I read the book three times through before the exam, over the course of a couple months.

During my last reading, at which point I well understood the technologies, I began to notice quite a few errors in the text, where either facts were wrong or where terms were used incorrectly. In one situation, the term 'device' was repeatedly used where 'interface' should have been the term; the laws of internal consistency would have required it. The published errata covers many errors, but perhaps only a 3rd of what I uncovered. This is not, by any means, unusual in technical publications though, and I don't hold it against the author.

On the whole though, the book is well-written, and very clear on most of the technologies covered. As far as the CD that comes with the book, the PDF books were convenient, but I don't think that the flash-cards were very useful. They don't shuffle, and it's not easy to go through them with the keyboard. My trouble was that I usually only had time to go through around 70 at a time, and when I would start again, I'd have to click through the 70 or 140 that I'd already covered. After a while, it wasn't worth the hassle to use them. They should allow you to start midway into the flashcard stack.

That's all.

Summary: Easy to read book
Review: This is an easy to read book with all information you need to do your Cisco certification. Unfortunately there are some heavy errors in some chapters. It seems to be written by different people with different understanding of the technology. In some parts it could be more precise. An errata is necessesary.

But over all it makes fun to read and to learn with this book and the tools that came with it.

Summary: This is the tool for the job.
Review: Simply put Mr. Lammle is a legend. His first CCNA 1.0 book was excellent and the CCNA 2.0 combined with the Router E-Lab helped me to further understand the concepts needed to pass the CCNA 2.0 exam.

This book is the most valuable tool that I have used to pass, however keep in mind that the exam does test on real world knowledge, and not just factoid memorization.

I thank Mr. Lammle for helping me get certified. This is an awesome book!

Sincerely,

Charles R. Steinmetz Jr. CCNA, CCDA

Summary: take you on the path to CCNA
Review: I picked this book after reading several other books on the same subject, still I learnt new theory that was important for the exam. The chapters are clearly layed out, and highlights the important facts and gives you just the right balance of knowledge to pass the exam. It gave a good brush up for the exam, while the questions at the end of each chapter were also helpful to straighten out the kinks. I would also suggest getting the erata to update some of the mistakes in access lists. I would recomend for future CCNA's.

Summary: I would use the book in the future too.
Review: I became a CCNA quite recently with a score of 924 in my very first attempt, courtesy Todd's Big little book. The difference is, this book doesn't give a feeling of reading a text. Instead, this gives an impression of reading a friend's advice. So, I felt very comfortable during my prep and while taking the exam, the vital points came flowing from the mind. Thanks Todd.
