Rating: Summary: After CCNA Review: This book is excellent for learning about routers and the principles that go along with them. But, the exam CCNA 2.0 goes another way than this book. Users should buy this for knowledge but not for exam purposes.
Rating: Summary: Errors mar an otherwise cost-effective way to be a CCNA! Review: Most of my co-workers who are making the first step to being Cisco-Certified buy this book -- and most of them have passed the CCNA. This book is probably worth getting if it is the only book you want to buy. And, in fact, you don't need to spend any more to get the first level of Cisco Certification. The CCNA is the only one of the Cisco Career Certifications that I would call "easy." I would never call it treacherous, as the Editor did. What I find treacherous is the amount of errors I found, and puzzled over, in this book. I checked SYBEX's (the publisher) errata website for some errors I found, but did not see them listed. I sent an e-mail to customer service and got back a response from the author, Todd Lammle! He promised that future editions will not have so many errors. The CD-ROM is nothing more than the questions at the end of each chapter done interactively, without any features added. I preferred to look up the answers at the end of the book. But for the price, what can you expect? Using only this book, and 1 year of experience with Cisco products, I passed the exam. Mission accomplished, on to CCDA and CCNP!
Rating: Summary: The Undisputed Best Review: Absolutely the best CCNA 2 study book. Closely follows Cisco's actual courseware. Was so superior to the other CCNA books I bought, I ended up not using the others. I passed 640-507 by a big margin.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book is great for cramming and had a ton of info that helped on the exam.
Rating: Summary: Great Book but... Review: This is a well written study guide but beware it is full of mistakes! Be sure you go to the Sybex homepage to get the Errata covering this book before you study. Shame on Sybex, too cheap to hire proofreaders?
Rating: Summary: Excellent book, a god send! Review: I just wanted to commend Todd Lammle on the excellent book he has written here. This book covers everything you need to know for the CCNA and more. I am a MCSE but as many people I had problems with binary conversions and subnetting (I could do it but not nearly as well as I wanted to) The way that Todd explains these concepts is superb and I wish I would have had this book when I was studying for MCSE. I would heavily recommend this book for anyone wanting to get CCNA or take the Microsoft TCP/IP exam.
Rating: Summary: Pass the exam - buy this book Review: I took the CCNA 2.0 exam after studying this book (pretty diligently) for about two weeks and scored a 935. There were a couple of questions on the exam that were surprises, but that should be expected on any cert exam. For the most part, however, this book prepared me for everything on the test and I DID pass it first time up. I actually thought the real exam seemed kind of easy after preparing with the practice exams in the book and on the cd. I did NOT use the RouterSim or the e-trainer at all, so I really wouldn't recommend spending the money to purchase those for this test. If you use the miscellaneous practice exams on the cd, and review your weak points in the text as you identify them, you WILL pass. I highly recommend this book to anyone studying for their CCNA.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Excellent. If there were an option to put more stars on rating, I would put them all.
Rating: Summary: Michael Milia CCNA Review: This is a pretty good book, although, it only scratches the surface in a few areas. Had I not been doing networking for the last 6 years and read numerous other books, I don't know if I would have passed the exam. I probabaly would have come pretty close, but may not have passed since 82% is required to pass. I guess what I am saying is that you need to have some networking knowledge before you pick up this book. All in all, this is a Solid Book for an intermediate level engineer.
Rating: Summary: On target Review: This book and, in particular, the CD-ROM version of the book were invaluable in the preparation for the CCNA exam. Reading the hard cover book with its explanations the first time through was very informative. While taking sample tests, the CD-ROM version of the book made it very easy to search for answers or clarification. Couple the book's configuration examples with the RouterSim software and you have tools worth literally thousands of dollars! With these tools, I passed the exam today. The scope of the book met what is apparently expected of a CCNA candidate.
