Rating: Summary: The Key to the ccna Review: I got this book to prepare for the ccna exam, and it is all I needed. I passed the exam with a 956. I didnt expect to that well based on the vagueness of some practice test I have seen but this book covers everything on the test to a degree that a process of elimination will get you thru the difficult questions.
Rating: Summary: Must read prior to taking CCNA exam Review: Granted I've worked in the telecommunications arena for a little over 20 years, but I had virtually no direct exposure to routers prior to reading this book. Received the book about four months ago. Studied it continuously, taking all chapter tests each weekend, over and over until I could make over 90% on each test. Then took the practice test the same way. There are errors, but none so dramatic that will drive you off course. I also used the Virtual Lab. It's okay to give you basic command experience, but naturally doesn't substitute for real hands-on router experience. I'm lucky to have a router lab that I can use (three 2500's and two 4000's) that made all the difference in the world. After reading the book cover to cover three times and testing as I stated above, the results were gratifying: 924/1000 Great book, but you've really got to continually drill yourself until you feel 100% confident, then go blow the test away. I've already bought Lammle's CCNP books, looking forward to completing the next level.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book for CCNA 2.0 Review: I have passed with flying scores with this book . The narration of the subject is good . I will bet 100 % you will pass with this book
Rating: Summary: This book should come with a bottle of white out! Review: I have not begun reading the book, but from the list of errata's and the hour it took me to correct all the errors, I think it should come with a bottle of white out! For those interested, I have heard there are quite a few more errors than listed on Sybex's site. So be wary. The book has receive alot of high recommendations. But I had to drop a star due to the errors it contains. This book is meant to be a learning tool. And as far as Im concerned, a learning tool should be 100% error free. The one thing I despise the most, is trying to learn a new subject/topic, spending hours going over my notes trying to figure out a problem, just to find out its a "typo"....
Rating: Summary: CCNA CCSI Exam Review: I passed CCNA and CCSI exam using this book. I finished ICND course and then with ICND student notes and this book I continued with my Cisco Career Certification. Finaly I succeed. I strongly recomend this book because there are some examples also for configuring Instructor part of the devices. This is needed in CCSI exam.
Rating: Summary: Another great book by Todd Lammle Review: This is a very good book to use to prepare for the CCNA 2.0 test. The "official" Cisco CCNA Exam Guide by Wendell Odum is ponderously long and convoluted, while this book gives you just enough to understand the material without putting you to sleep. Read this one right before you go to take the test. Highly recommended. Lammle has another winner here.
Rating: Summary: dry writing n' dull reading... Review: I passed my CCNA with this book and the CISCO press book. As I worked hard on both books, I am not sure which one helped more. But I have a strong feeling that the CISCO one really helped.Reading this book is not fun at all. I don't particularly enjoy Todd's writing style/capability. Lots of mistakes and pointless comments. I agree that it is easy to understand, but the problem really is that you don't learn much from it... Don't buy the e-trainer. It basically repeats all the questions/procedures in the lab exercises in the book. And it is out of sync' with the book! It is totally a joke.
Rating: Summary: my opinion about the book Review: I read this book couple of weeks back and managed to pass the CCNA exam. I think the book is excellent and well written for the exam. One requires to go through the book very carefully including the Appendix. If you understand the subject , you will be able to pass very easily. The best way to understand the subject is to study this book. One of the best I ever read.
Rating: Summary: Not enough to complete the CCNA properly Review: The book has some good information on tutorials on aspects of Cisco networking at CCNA level. However the are several mistakes - and some contradictory statements (check the access list questions regarding placement of extended/standard access lists). Even some mistakes in the interactive exams. The Sybex website lists no mistakes to the text, readers say the have reported them - what gives? Sounds like they're not on the ball. I also got a range of questions in my CCNA exam which were not even touched on in the book (I checked the book right after sitting the exam). I passed, but even with this book sitting open beside you YOU WOULD NOT GET 100% in the exam. I'd say it would give you 90% at best. Best used in conjunction with other study material.
Rating: Summary: A great book for foundation building Review: Concise and easy to read text. Get to the point approach makes it an effective tool for studying the materials, not only for exam takers, but also for first-time Cisco users.
