Rating: Summary: Good Book for your CCIE Preparation..... Review: Good book fr CCIE candidates. Unique to the book are the "Issue Spotting" scenarious adding to the candidates mastery. Remember that no SINGLE book can claim that you will pass the CCIE test. To date, this is one of the best books for CCIE preparation in one single volume. Recommended.
Rating: Summary: A monumental milestone by a GrandMaster by which all ....... Review: ....future and past Cisco reference will be judged against. In fact, I couldn't resist writing this second review after reading his incredibily written frame-relay chapter. I had misconception about MAP, inverse ARP, subinterface but am not even realising it! Caslow book organised the topic in such incredible manner as if he knows you have all these misconception and perform a surgical operation to correct them all! And at this moment of revelation did I realise that this ultraordinary "ROADMAP" will bring you out of that jungle of cisco material that so many mere mortal would-be-ccie eventually surrender their fight. Enough emotional outburst, I guess - here is some observation : 1. This book is not for beginner - unless you have 3 digit IQ. Although the first 3 chapters pretend to lead a beginner through - it just doesn't work. Beginner please pick up Chris Lewis amazing book. 2. Very few diagrams - I guess there is just no space for them with these much solid material pack in - beginner will find it hard. 3. Powerful material starts at chapter 4 - frame relay. I suspect if I did not gone through Chris Lewis book I will find myself struggling and not appreciate it's clarity. This is followed by equally well written ISDN chapter - without a single diagram - unless you think show command is a diagram! Perhaps Bruce want to consider coming out with a sequeal of this book - we outside of the US has no such luxury of attending your fine CCIE class. One for the 3rd world, Bruce. I still don't see myself as CCIE material, but just may be, that with Caslow's book, one day I might have a chance to tell my grandson that old grandpa's been there, done that.
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING coverage of Test Prep - Great Reference Also Review: Having tested out on ICRC and ACRC, I wish I had read this one first. This book completes all questions remaining from the texts of both courses. Mr. Caslow treats the subject of internet connectivity with seriousness and clarity. No condescending humor in the text - just hard-hitting information and challenging scenarios. Having instructed 48 students in CISCO routing/switching, I have selected this book as the standard text for the rest of my classes. As the Commanding Officer for a Communications Company, I won't let my IS teams leave home without this book! Great Work!!
Rating: Summary: A book you must keep if you work with Cisco routers Review: This book is by far the most informative Cisco book out. I own almost every Cisco book available and this one stands heads above the rest. Very good book, a must for your technical library.
Rating: Summary: A solidly written book Review: It is while reading chapter 1 "warm-up issue spotting scenario" that I suspect I will never have the time nor the intellectual capacity to become a CCIE. This book alternate between the roadmap, down-to-earth, but often joyless style of writing/teaching ( I suspect reading dictionary must have felt like that - which prompt me to put a similar feeling title to this review ), to the thought provoking, brilliant "spot the issue" at the end of most chapters ( Give me similar feeling when I read those past questions in Mathematica Olympic book ). It is not for beginner and every chapter will send you scrambling for other sources of supplementary reading materials to understand the fine point. This books is a must have for CCIE candidate, but I suspect you will have more joy reading Terry Slattery or Chris Lewis books. I personally would like to see this book expand into a series of probably 5 books - and take a candidate from beginner all the way to CCIE. So far, only this author appears to have the capability to do such impossible deed.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Don't listen to the boneheads who think this is a bad book. I just got my CCIE and I can tell you this is one of the top TWO books I used to prepare. Jeff Doyle's book is the other one. Great Book
Rating: Summary: Buy this book Review: Giles' book is better for the written exam, but use Caslow in your lab preparation. Caslow's chapter on Frame Relay alone is worth the price of admission.
Rating: Summary: Save your money the Cisco CDROM is free. Review: The Catalyst chapter was not even a chapter it was one long show command. The typos were horrific... Save your money the Cisco CDROM is free.
Rating: Summary: I read a few chapters of this book, and felt cheated. Review: I read a few chapters of this book, and felt cheated thus far. I would suggest you to go to the bookstore and read some chapters and see if this fits your personal reference.
Rating: Summary: Great reference and exam prep guide. Review: Apart from being a good exam prep guide, it's an excellent desktop resource and reference to do your everyday job. My only disapointment is in some of the poor grammar scattered through the book, which hopefully will be rectified in the next edition.
