Rating: Summary: Good book however not for a beginner Review: This book is pretty good, there is not nearly enough information contained within for you to be able to pass the Written exam. It is good for someone with a few years experience and a little knowledge. Dont think that this book is going to help you get certified all alone. It is just a starter book.
Rating: Summary: Pure classics Review: This book is the best general Cisco tutorial I even know. If you want to find the only book covering as much Cisco routers and switches as possible - that's it! This books is focused on how to use Cisco equipment. It studies you how to install, configure and do troubleshooting and it gives you some overview of background technologies. The good things are:- It covers almost all major areas. - The language is very nice! I enjoyed to read it. - It has very few mistakes. - It's not just a cram to pass exam and forget everything. It was written for real life and it'd be very useful if you even don't want to get certified and just looking for a good Cisco book. Some people think it's to complex to start with, but I think you can read it any time. Even my wife, who knows nothing about nets, told me that she found some interesting things there when she occasionally read a couple pages :) Yes, this books includes many very advanced topics but it's written very well, from easiest things to advanced, and you 'll find it usefull anyway. It's a feature of real classics - you enjoy it even if you don't understand all details :) The main bad thing is that it's obviously not enough to pass CCIE. I read it after passing CCIE written and many questions from real exams are not included in this book. But it doesn't mean you don't need this book for the test preparation. All my friends CCIE used it for preparation and everybody told me that it's the best resource. But CCIE is kind of exam which obviously requires more then just read one book. Instead of looking for the easiest way just try to study hard, read as much as possible and you'll get it! Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Cisco certification has a new friend! Review: The internet has over 25 million routers attached to it. There are countless bridges and switches also connected and Cisco is the name of choice. The certification process is long and the exams are difficult, yet hundreds try every day. This book can really make a difference in success and failure. Caslow cover the CCIE exam with the utmost detail and gives you a book that will surely be a necessary reference in your quest for the CCIE certification. This book is highly informative, yet for those starting out in the CCIE arenas, you might find this book a little more advanced. The book is broken down into several levels and each level builds upon the one before. The book gives you everything you would need to pass the exam, including test-taking tips along the way. Your job is to organize the note and study. The $69.99 price tag may appear to be a hefty price, but the information is well worth it. What the Author may want to do is include a cd with practices test and possibly a CBT program to follow the book. Overall I think this book is just what the Cisco Professional needs.
Rating: Summary: A must for CCIE LAB Prepartation, MCyr CCIE # 5565 Review: If you have a lot of experience with InterNetworking, you will appreciate this book. Don't count on this book to pass your written exam. This one is for LAB preperation and troubleshooting skills developement. The author take for grant that you have reached the required level to read beetween the lines. His approch for troubleshooting is simply THE WAY to resolve problems.
Rating: Summary: something helpful but don't expect too much.. Review: I have read this book since last Oct. At that time, there were not too much CCIE books you could choose and I was kind of new to this area. Last month I passed the CCIE Written Test and now is head on lab exam preparation with sold foundation about internetworking system. As I looked back to this book and the reviews on this site, I felt that this book really provides something helpful in the way for troubleshooting methodoligy and frame relay. But for CCIE lab or Written Test, it might not be helpful too much. You have to look for more resource to prepare yourself. Everyone with diierent backgound may have different view about this book. I'm sure that once you find something different from couple months ago about this book, you really learned a lot of things !
Rating: Summary: Very good book, but don't start with it Review: This book is very good for those who have a lot of experience with routers and switches. It's invaluable resource. But those who are just starting to study for CCIE will find hard to read this book. The first book you should read is CCIE Lab Study Guide by Stephen Hutnik.
Rating: Summary: Nothing Quite Like It! Review: As a qualified CCNP/CCDP gearing up to take the CCIE lab, I have found that this book is invaluable. Sitting next to a CCIE that used this book to help prepare for the lab I am confident that I can also benefit from the book. I have noticed that there are a few reviews that don't recommend this book at all. The main concern is the fact that it appears not to go into enough depth with regard to packet structure, handshaking processes etc. However, by the time you come to taking the CCIE certifications you will already have passed the CCNP and CCDP. By this time you will be profocient with the theory behind the technologies the book deals with. Therefore the book can focus on pointing you in the right direction with regards to the thought process you should exhibit when facing the lab and real-world scenarios. The format of the book is such that it shows you key point and configuration issues, and gives you tips on those things to look out for and bear in mind when dealing with each of the technologies put forward in each chapter. At the end of each chapter I have found that it is a good idea to set up your own scenarios and try as many different configurations as possible. This will reinforce all the information put forward in the text. This is important as the main foe that we will face in the lab is time. If you know how to configure everything initially, without spending time searching the CD in the lab, then you should be onto a winner. This book can prepare you for this but only in conjunction with a fair amount of initial knowledge and a lot of hours spent in the evening tinkering with configurations and make and break scenarios. With this book you will need a little less luck to take the CCIE lab as you will be a lot better prepared.
Rating: Summary: This is a good book but not enough Review: This is an excellent book to start your CCIE certication process, but this won't be enough to pass the lab. Not even close. Once you feel comfortable with concepts and material presented in the book, you are about 1/3 way there. If you are unable to grasp the concepts in the book, quit and save yourself some time. This book is very popular among CCIE candidates. People who have not gone farther than this book have been making early exits though.
Rating: Summary: Cisco Reference Review: This book is an excellent reference tool. It has pulled me out of some difficult situations where I needed a quick reference "Bible". One should not use just this book alone to pass CCIE test.
