Rating: Summary: Not Original Work Review: The content is accurate, but so much of this book seems to be taken, with superficial changes, from the Roberts/Heller/Ernest book. A lot of the chapter titles are identical, and the organization by objective is nearly the same. The content is often very close, just presented in a different order. Some diagrams are almost straight-ahead copies. If I pay good money for a book, I want original work, not a copy of something someone else wrote.
Rating: Summary: Very well organized and comprehensive book. Review: This book helped me to gain my certification last week. I can't say enough good things about this book. You will like its concise yet highly effective examples, exceptionally well-organized sections and detailed dissections of the Java language. If you are serious of becoming a better Java programmer, go get it.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for Exam as well as Learning Java for Fisrt Time Review: Most books expect you to be familiar with Java before you study Certification Guide. Even if they promise you don't need to be familiar, the organization of topics will not be comfortable to new comers. This book organizes sequentially. No forward references. Exercises are good. Don't have a second thought on buying this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book - no doubts. Review: This book is an excellent resource for the Java2 Programmers Certification. It covers all the required topics one would need to know to complete the Java2 certification and covers them in the right amount of depth. The practice questions are also good but are a bit tougher than the actual exam questions, same goes for the mock exam also. This book, some practice and understanding of the language is all one needs to clear the test. I would also recommend it as a starters guide to the newbee because of its clear and concise description of the topics covered. With 4 months of Java programming experience and 3 weeks of this book I cleared the test with 86% marks. It has been my best investment in terms of time till date and the reward makes me proud of myself and I owe it all to this book.
Rating: Summary: The best book to get certified. Review: I have enjoyed this book ... not only for certification but also for learning the fine details of the java language. It is much better than the other java certification books that are available!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book - Go get it ! Review: Excellent book, not only for certification but even otherwise. A lot better than the other 2 certification books which are loaded with "typos" ! Sample test and sample questions in the book give a proper simulation for the kinds of questions on the actual test.
Rating: Summary: Very helpful book. Review: I passed the Java 2 exam with 83%. Had I gotten a hold of this book earlier, I would have done much better. This book really gets into details, and you will be facing such twisted and sneaky questions on the real test. The test at the end of the book is a lot more difficult than the real one. While preparing for this test, make sure you understand why you made mistakes in answering the book's test/sample questions, and be sure to write code to practice uncertain concepts.
Rating: Summary: Hard to beat Review: A valuable resource that will remain a reference work: it and the JDK documentation were the only sources I used for the certification test. This book took me from trial-and-error to 92% on the test (should have been 100%, but I think I was trying to be TOO correct!). Not a wasted "fluff" word in it anywhere, something I value. *Make sure* you use the specified errata reference to correct any errors.
Rating: Summary: Not just a certifiation guide Review: Wonderful book on the nitty gritties of Java . Unlike other certification books , this book provides insight into details of Java programming. sample test is difficult than the actual one.
Rating: Summary: A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification. Review: The book is very good, but I was unable to get the mock engine as promised. I registered the book and sent numorous complaints to the publishers. The publishers don't seem to care. I am stuck with this book.
