Rating: Summary: Networking is rough.. the rest is excellent (newbie) Review: After purchasing this book to prepare for the corresponding Oracle certification exam, I was extremely disappointed to find I had purchased a book that had seemingly bypassed the editor's desk. In addition to grammatical and syntax errors, there are a significant number of logical errors that only aid in reducing your chances of passing the exam. Forget the networking section entirely, it will only succeed in frustrating you. About the only good thing that I can say about this book, is that it does seem to cover all of the exam objectives-- although in a quite confusing and incomprehensible manner. My recommendation is to utilize the resources on the Oracle Technology Network. With exam objectives in hand, you can find all of the subject matter you will need to gain complete comprehension of the topics. Save your money and good luck!
Rating: Summary: A good preparation tool Review: I have just passed the exam using this book as the main reference. On the 73 questions (63 were scored), the answers to 3-4 questions were not in the book. I am not a network specialist but I found the first part of the book (Oracle Networking) unclear. I had to read quite a lot from other sources (books, Oracle online documentation) just to understand. On the other hand, I found the Backup and Recovery part very clear. Just what you need to know to pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: Has to be better Review: I took the OCP Oracle9i Database: Fundamentals II exam last Tuesday and passed easily. Although this book has grammatical errors, it completely covers all the topics for the exam. If you have 1 to 2 years experience as an Oracle DBA, you will find this book is all you need to pass the exam the first time. Thank you Rama.
Rating: Summary: Good Exam Guide Review: I used this book for my exam (1z0-032). It is a good book, well-organized and detailed. It is far better than the sybex book that I used as supplement. The contents of the oraclepressbook are very closed to the Exam questions. The practice exams on the CD were very helpfull especially those questions related to recovery scenarios. I would recommend this book to candidates taking the OCP. But my advice would be to use the oracle online documentation to clear some doubts you might have or get more information. Very often, the oracle online documentation provides you the best expalanation. This exam is really challenging with a lot things to know. You will probably have different recovery scenarios questions.I will also advise you to spend time on the Oracle Networking part to master the concepts correctly before taking the exam.
I will finish by thanking Rama Velpuri for the great job he did putting this Exam Guide together. Other than a bug in the software the guide deserves 4 stars from me.
Thanks R. Velpuri

Rating: Summary: One of a few needed books Review: Other than the typo's and minor errors, the book was a better than average aide to passing the associated exam. For those topics it covered on the OCP exam, it provided sufficient depth. However, there were certain nuances on the exam that weren't covered in any of the two books I used to prepare. The tests on the cd-rom were a good tool to prepare.
Rating: Summary: Not in-depth enough Review: The real exam questions were more difficult than what this book prepares you for. Buggy software on the CD Rom. Use this book only as a study outline.
Rating: Summary: Has to be better Review: The text could be more thorough, it just seems to leave me needing to ask questions. Could be better if it had a glossary. The organization is poor, as the topics are presenting in misleading ways where the context it applies is presented in an offhand way. Test questions too easy. I am going to need to find another book which covers the material before I dare take the test.
Rating: Summary: i passed my OCP Review: This book is really great, after reading the book i was very confident about passing the Fundamentals II exam. I have passed my OCP 2 days back.
Rating: Summary: Strengths and weaknesses Review: While this book does a reasonable job of explaining the key knowledge areas of the Fundamentals II exam, I found "OCP: Oracle9i DBA Fundamentals II Study Guide" by Doug Stuns and Matthew Weishan to be more complete and in depth. I used that book during my OCP training as a primary reference for Fundamentals II. I've read through this book, which I got when I purchased the OCP Oracle9i DBA Certification Boxed Set, and found it to be reasonably accurate and adequately written. I would say that both books have unique strengths and weaknesses and choosing one over the other is more a matter of personal preference. The advantage to this one, however, is the value if you get it as part of the boxed set. Among the strong points of this book are the self tests and practice exam questions. Weaknesses include poor editing, which seems to plague this series, and the inconsistent writing that is at times extremely clear and others quite obtuse.
