Rating: Summary: I waited more than a year for this book Review: I only wish if they fix those errors... Its a copy-paste of the CCIE topics with a brief definition of each, so it might refresg ur memory, as a dictionnary, not more. I hope Ciscopress can cover it up by editing it and sending the list of errors.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for 2001... Review: I passed my CCIE practical in 2001. Had to re-up this year, so I bought Mr. Bruno's book to prepare. The book referenced the new R&S qualification exam by number (350-001), but the content was for the exam I took two years ago! The written has changed quite a bit. This book is useful for about 50% of the subject matter...
Rating: Summary: I passed - no thanks to this book I'm sorry to say..... Review: I passed the new format CCIE written in January 2003 with a 69. I am hardly surprised that so any people fail considering the lack of detail in this book that Cisco Press market as a "essential tool". I normally like Cisco Press titles - they are great. However, this book is FAR TOO BASIC. In fact the so called "test exam" (which, according to the book is "more difficult" than the real thing) is a joke that would not tax even a CCNA. The material is simply too basic and let me assure you that this is one heck of a difficult test.In fairness to the book though, it is impossible to cover the vast array of objectives in the CCIE written test in one volume. The book makes a good attempt at fleshing out the written a lot more than the Cisco Blueprint on the CCIE website. However, I am surprised that Cisco Press have put their considerable authority behind such a flimsy attempt at assisting people towards the CCIE. Every paragraph in this book needs to be backed up by a few hundred pages of reading in other "proper" books. I'm sad to give a book such a slating. As a general networking book for intermediate level people, it is actually quite nice to read - factual and concise - and you can certainly learn a lot from it. However, this book has very lofty ambitions - to help you pass the CCIE written test. It is just way too basic for that purpose. If you buy only this book to study from in the hope of passing the CCIE written, I am very sorry to say that I believe you will fail the test. In fact if CCIE were 100 and the passing score is 58, I'm afraid this book will get you no further than 15. That is the opinion of three of us where I work who HAVE passed the test and have viewed this book. Save yourself this purchase and buy yourself both the Jeff Doyle volumes (routing TCP/IP) and the kennedy/Clarke Cisco LAN switching. Make sure you read the URL's on CCO too. Very Best of luck.
Rating: Summary: UNFORTUNATELY LATE! Review: I presented the beta test on May 6/2002 for the new CCIE written test that will start live on July 31 2002 and this book does NOT COVER THE NEW MATERIAL OF THE NEW TEST and unfortunately is based on the previous test that is expiring. So the bottom line is that this book is also expiring "in it's content". I hope that the publisher "Cisco Press" and the author will come out with a fresh updated edition for the new version of this exam as soon they realize that no one wants to buy an outdated book. As other reader stated "a little bit too late".
Rating: Summary: This book is not enough for passing the exam Review: I strongly recommend not to read this book. For passing CCIE is necessary to read more than it. Some of my colleages study from it and failed the exam. The book don't cover the topic deep enough as requiered.
Rating: Summary: A good guide Review: I think this book it's a good guide to take the exam but there are some topics that need to be enforced from other sources, specially Multicast, SS7, IS-IS, QoS.
Rating: Summary: GET THIS BOOK! Even for other exams! CCDP. CCNP Review: I wish I had bot this when it first came out a month+ ago. Now I find I need it immediately, because it actually covers lots of the material needed for the CCDP exam. Yes, it's HEAVY on technical details, but even if you don't memorize everything, enough may stick in your mind to help you guess the correct answer to the many obscure & tricks Cisco test questions. And yes, it covers a few suddenly now-obsolete topics, but you can easily SKIP those FEW pages (you did read the Cisco exam objectives, I hope!). And it provides uniquely appropriate coverage of the newly-added topics: IS-IS, a little security. (It "adaquately" covers PIX config in 2 pages!) IF you go beyond CCNA, get this now (30% off), before (like me) you wish you had.
Rating: Summary: Official Preparation for Failing the CCIE Qualification Exam Review: I'm really dissappointed with this so called official preparation guide for ccie routing and switching qualification (CCIE QE) exam. It's true that to become a CCIE, sitting down and reading a prep. book is not enough; this is what makes CCIE certification different than others. But a book announced as the official prep. guide, should have given more than an a poor overview of each topic. For those people who are preparing for the exam, I suggest the URLs on Cisco's web site, the TAC documents, which are invaluable, richer in content and most upto date in addition to books already wellknown an mentioned in previous reviews; but not this book.
Rating: Summary: Above comments not quite acurate... Review: I've always been a fan of Cisco Press books (except for CID), but I'd like to clarify the comments that the previous poster made. Please note that Cisco's site states: "The CCIE Program is proud to announce the upcoming release of the revised CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam (350-001). The new version of the exam will go live, and replace the current exam, on August 7th, 2002. Note: The revised exam will consist of 150 questions and be 180 minutes in duration." From what I can gather, it's just a revised CCIE exam that's keeping the 350-001 number. Anyhow, the CCIE program manager supposedly had his hand in the development of this book so I sure hope I'm right.
