Rating: Summary: CCIE Practical Studies Volume 1 Review: The eagerly anticipated book "CCIE Practical Studies Volume 1" arrived today from Amazon. Needless to say you must buy this book if you want to raise your chances of passing the lab. The labs at the back of the book most likely represent the real one day lab scenarios quite closely and you are given 8.5 hours to complete them - without talking to anyone! One of the labs carries the name of one of the CCIE lab program developers who presented, along with Bill Parkhurst, the CCIE session at Networkers 2001 in Copenhagen ("Darth Reid"). Throughout the 1200 pages are interspersed shorter practice labs where you are tested on specific tasks. The only "fault" I found in this book, if you could call it such, is the omission of BGP and IS-IS from this volume - these and other topics are to be covered in Volume 2. Let's hope that one is published in a timely manner.

Rating: Summary: Book you would want to have around Review: There are some errors in the book. Both grammatical and command errors and they do leave some things out when it comes to the labs. Example is where they come up with some of there numbers in the configs for Frame Relay labs and for the configs for the Voice Over stuff. If you have been through the book you know what I'm talking about. I really do think that this is a book that you would want in your library of congress and a great book if you are looking extend your certification to the expert level as long as you have figured out where the errors were. If your trying to learn and want to take what the book says as gospel I would buy a few more books (Jeff Doyles) and browse cisco.com (doc) to compare what you are reading. You'd be surprised.
Rating: Summary: A book that is missing the answers! Review: This book helped me out in my pursuit of the famous 4 numbers. Although some sections are a little light, Karl makes up for it in DLSW and ISDN. I like his labs in the back and was able to get them all done, but I had no answers to compare to. There is more than one way to skin the cat and I just wanted to see if Karl did it differently than I. I e-mailed and he responded. He said they will be available shortly. Missing the answers was the only reason I gave it 4 stars.
Rating: Summary: Really useful info & labs for CCIE Review: This book is amazingly clear and useful. For the CCIE lab, it's even more useful than the classic Doyle pair. It covers lots of hardware, and I suspect the labs are very relevant to the actual CCIE lab. The content is also useful to CCNP and to everyday IOS users. (I wish the title had the word "lab" in it, so I could have found it instead of some of the non-Cisco-pub books I bot.)
Rating: Summary: Totally Awesome Reference ! Review: This book is an indepth review of the network technologies that are key components of the CCIE Routing and Switching Lab exam. If you're already a CCIE or want to become one, this book will show you the "tricks of the trade".
Rating: Summary: An Okay Book Review: This book is just ok, don't rely much on it. There are many errors in the book. And it is really verbose. The book can at leat be cut by 1/3 if it were not so verbose.
Rating: Summary: Good practical book. Review: This book is that extra tool to prepare you for the challenging CCIE certification. It covers most of the WAN technologies out there along with the routing protocols. Coverage of the dynamic routing is scattered however. I would also look into getting "Cisco IOS for IP Routing" by Andrew Colton. That book should fill in the gaps nicely as far as IP routing protocols, such as EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP.
Rating: Summary: Finally - A R&S Lab Reference for the practical thinker! Review: This book is well written, despite the occasional grammatical error and a few incorrect configuration commands. If you are looking for a great PRACTICAL, REVIEW book (not for the beginner) with some very good labs that use minimal equipment (except for ATM) this is THE book. The fact that Cisco press published it, makes me feel better about the content and relevance to the actual R&S Lab. Great job... Hire better proofreaders. Rating: Summary: The MUST HAVE Book for CCIE candidates Review: This great book gives CCIE candidates the kind of info needed to present the new 1 day lab exam, I eagerly wait for Volume II of this book (Vol I does not cover BGP, Multicast, VPNs and some other topics that are currently part of the CCIE Lab). If you are looking for a clear and accurate study material for the CCIE Lab THIS IS THE BOOK YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!!
