Summary: Good for class and labs. Not good for new A+ Tests.
Review: This book came out in OCTOBER 2003. The new comptia A+ exams came out November 26th, 2003. Although this is the premier book for class room study, it does not focus on the new exam questions or related detail. Five stars for class room study. 1 star for real exam focus study. This book should be called Computer Basics 101, not A+ Certification. It's a marketing gimmick.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: THe Only Book You'll Need......maybe
Review: This book covers everything you need for the A+ exam based on the 2003 objectives. I studied for the exam using an older book based on the 2001 objectives and this one. I passed no problems both hardware and OS. If you have basic working knowledge of both hardware and OS get this book and it will get you through the A+. Were a few typos (hence the 4 stars)but nobody's perfect i guess.

Summary: Best Book to pass A+
Review: This book is very well written with a lot of pictures and examples. Mike makes hard ideas extremely easy with his wonderful real life analogies. I think if you read this book and do practice exams on the CD then pass is guarantied.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Covers hardware exam well, but lacks proper coverageofOSexam
Review: This book provides a good coverage of the A+ Core Hardware exam with about 80 percent of the questions on the Core Hardware covered in some part of this book. However this book does not provide as good of a coverage of the Operating Systems exam. A lot of questions that came up on the OS exam were not mentioned anywhere in this book.

The practice exams included with this book are fairly basic. About 80 percent of the questions on the Core Hardware practice exams with this book were covered on the Core Hardware exam. Only 50 percent of the questions on the OS practice exams were covered in the OS exam.

This book also needs to be better organised around the A+ objectives.

Overall, this book covers the Core Hardware exam very well but the OS section of this book needs quite a bit of improvement.

Summary: A bunch of over written basics, not enough test specifics
Review: This book turned out to be an oversized paper weight. It over covers the basics, and wastes lots of space talking in detail about long out of date "historical" info. The author spends too much time writing about detailed situations and personal experiences rather then getting to the point. I think he likes to hear himself talk? I passed both parts of the test but it had very little to do with what was in this book. Since the tests require the taker to be prepared for 80 questions out of 1000, the less that has to be read ensures the more important information that will be retained. Many of the topics and details covered on the test aren't even in this book. I don't know what other book to suggest, I just know that this one isn't sufficient to do the job of aiding a newcomer in passing the test. Maybe it's fine for someone with years of experience but not for a beginner.

Summary: Passed Class/Failed Exam
Review: This book was great for my A+ class and labs. However, I used it as my only source for A+ test study. Unfortunately I failed both parts of the A+ exam. Hense, this book was good for my class and bad for my certification exams. Maybe next time...

Summary: All you need for the A+ exam.......maybe
Review: This book was great. I used this book along with an older boook based on the 2001 objectives and passed the exam. The 2003 objectives are covered in this book. If you know the basics about hardware and OS then get this book......it will get you through the A+. Did have a few typos hence the four stars.

Summary: Toynbert
Review: This is *the* best book for A+ preparation, it reads like a novel.... the 900 pages go into your head like water. great book, and I have compared this one to 3 or 4 other giant doorstops. This is by far the easiest to understand and prepare you for the test very thouroughly. If you know half the stuff in this book you will pass the exam without a problem. I did...

Summary: Great Book !!
Review: This is a terrific manual; it was very helpful to a technical guy like me changing careers in mid-life. Lots of time-waster books out there, but A+ Certification by Meyers & Jernigan turned out to be one of the better ones....a big help!
