Summary: The first book I have ever read...
Review: ...and while I, Greg Ryan Argo, am a total birdbrain, I can read. I wish that I knew all of the words, but the ones I could pronounce were real good. I first bought the book to give to my girlfriend, who is a huge NASCAR fan, but I got to reading a few pages before I gave it to her. I ended up finishing the whole book. My favorite part was when they made racing a metaphor for life, you know, it is circular and eventually it ends and some people are really good at it, like my mentor Adam Iverson, and some people have flat tires and everyone needs a pit crew and a spotter and a crew chief and a restrictor plate. I cried alot when Dale Jarrett's dog died. I laughed soooo hard when Mark Martin depantsed Greg Biffle in front of those hot chicks, and Greg Biffle broke wind. Ha! I am laughing so hard even now, and I am not even reading the story, but just thinking about the story. I recommend this book to anyone who can read, and even to people who can't read, because the pictures of the race cars totally make up for the words you don't know. I can't wait for Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul 2, or the Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul Movie (Lifetime Movie Network, starring Kirk AND Candice Cameron). Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom

Summary: A great book for any reader
Review: Although I am an avid NASCAR fan, upon finishing this book, I came to the realization that you don't even have to know what NASCAR stands for to appreciate the storys and messages conveyed within the pages. I will admit some background on driver deaths would be very helpful information if I didn't know the history as well as I do. ... My favorite story is also one of the shortest in the book. "Special Delivery" will make you think twice about that big brown truck when you see it next time I gauruntee. Definitely the saddest story in the book in my opinion. (page 33- I've had so many people read it I've put the page to memory). If you've ever read Chicken Soup books, you'll know what to expect with the wide variety of topics discussed, and if you're a NASCAR fan, you'll enjoy the NASCAR ties expressed in each story. Definitely worth the price.

Summary: Sutton story
Review: Hello. I just read the Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul book and loved the entire thing, but one story was really amazing. The story on Kelly Sutton by Andrew Kossak was my favorite one in the book. Her story and his writing were incredible. Great job by everyone as Chicken Soup has hit the jackpot again.

Summary: Inspirational Reading
Review: I bought this book because my brother Robert Faiella contributed 2 stories to it ("Go to a race" and "Think before you boo"). However, after reading his two stories and then flipping through the other stories I realized that this truly is a wonderful book. It was great to see the personal sides of the drivers and learn how their generosity, talents and skills have touched so many lives. If you enjoyed the other Chicken Soup for the Soul series, you'll enjoy this book too - even if you never did watch a race!! Try it or like my brother says...Go to a race!

Summary: satisfying "soup"
Review: I purchased a copy of this book for my dad, but decided to read it before sending it to him. I'm so glad I did! It was a very enjoyable and appropriately FAST read.

The drivers contribute some stories and I really appreciate their perspective. There are stories not just from the contemporary drivers, but also from legends like Ned Jarrett and Richard Petty. Some of the stories are little windows in to the drivers' lives -- look for a story called "Jeff Gordon's Training Wheels" by John Bickford and Claire B. Lang.

However, it's the "pro" writers' stories I find the tastiest. David Poole, Carol Einarsson, Rob Faiella and Marty Smith are some of my favorite writers on the web and they provide some of this book's best moments. Most of the stories are sweet without being too saccharine -- there's a great deal to identify with if you are a fan. Carol Einarsson's "The Little Girl's Shoe" starts the collection off with lots of horsepower and I also really enjoyed Rob Faiella's commentary "Go to a Race."

All in all, a great book for fans and people who wonder what NASCAR is all about.

Summary: Touchy Feely Pabulum for Literate Rednecks
Review: I wonder who the marketing genius was who came up with this tome: "Okay, let's kick it around the room: How can we put a product together that appeals to the illiterate Mammy Yokums and Jeff Foxworthys in the Red States and the brain-dead TV-addicted Oprah and Hillary fans in the Blue States?"

"Hey boss, how about a set of Martha Stewart mason jars embossed with tasteful idyllic scenes and a do-it-yourself moonshine kit?"

"Nah. Emeril's coming out with his Guido Cajun Gourmet White Lightning home kit next week. May be a trademark infringement suit."

"I have one!"

"Yes, Janet?"

"What if we did a cooperative crossover between Jack Daniels and Ikea. You know their Glug, spiced wine? What if we got a hearty, spicy, nutty and oakey whiskey into all those home furnishing superstores around the holidays?"

"No can do: Ikea would have to take out a liquor license. They already balked when we tried to push Brigitte Nielson Akvavit on them in the '80s."

"I've got one!"

"Well, come on, let's hear it."

"How about..."

"...Yes?..."

"How about 'Chicken Soup for the Redneck Soul'? We can get the kickers to get in touch with their feminine sides."

"Say, that IS a good idea: A book for the goobers that appeals to their latent you-know-what side....One problem though: I think Foxworthy would hit us with a copyright violation. What do you think, Thompson?"

"Yeah, you're right. How about, instead, 'Chicken Soup for the...........NASCAR Soul?'"

"Perfect! Wait a minute! One problem: NASCAR people can't read!"

"Sir, I think that's the kind of vicious stereotyping the liberal Blue States dominant media is guilty of! I have here a marketing survey which will demonstrate -- to the contrary -- that far from all NASCAR fans are illiterate. In fact, only 79% are."

"Which means?"

"Which MEANS, we've got a potential to sell this to 21% of the NASCAR market."

"Thompson, you're a genius!!! What a perfect niche book! We'll get a Pulitzer out of this, maybe even a Nobel nomination!"

Summary: Wonderful Book
Review: This book is a MUST for any NASCAR fan or anyone who enjoys inspirational stories. There are stories from present drivers to yesterday's drivers, from sports writers to fans whose lives have been touched by the sport of NASCAR. The book will make you laugh and could make you cry. I would recommend this book to everyone! You will not be disappointed with your purchase.
