Rating: Summary: This is the ABSOLUTE BEST book in its class! Review: "THE NUMBERS SPEAK WORDS"
Locate by way of "Strong's Numbers" the definitions (and derivaties, synonyms, and antonyms of words when they exist) of the Original Words which God selected to use when He wrote the Greek New Testament! Used in 180 degrees reverse from its author's intended purpose we find that with it, God also provides us with the definitions to HIS numbers 1-5624 thus "The Numbers Speak Words"! Along with its companion Old Testament Dictionary and the text with Strong's Numbers of the OT & NT, these four volumes are UNBEATABLE!
Rating: Summary: Best practical Greek word study for non Greek readers Review: Every significant NT Greek word is defined as to meaning and grammatical use. Each word is keyed to the Strong's Concordance so the book's treasures are easily accessible to anyone. Really helpful are the numbers given for the parts of the Greek word which allows one to delve deeper into the original meaning. For example the word "to dwell" used in Colossians 1:19 - katoikeo (2730) = kata (2596) an intensive, and oikeo (3611), to dwell, reside. One can easily see how this word is put together, and reason on the richness of the thought that Christ has indeed come to reside in Christians permanently. This format allows one to travel extensively in the NT via the original language. Sure, Greek scholars can by pass this book, but for the average reader and busy preacher in the trenches of life, it is an excellent, quick and practical tool for careful Bible study
Rating: Summary: a monumental work Review: For the beginning Bible student, I would recommend getting this dictionary sometime after getting Strong's, a Bible dictionary, and Vine's. It will give you a little more depth than Vine's, and the entry titles are written in Greek so that you can practice recognition of the alphabet. But don't worry, you can still use this dictionary even if you do not know any Greek because it also has an English translation reference index (also a win-win situation, like Vine's.) It is coded to Strong's just in case you really cannot find a particular word. You can compare the definitions of words with Vine's to get a second opinion, or you can just use it as a stand-alone reference. And not only are the words defined, but the author also gives you a lot of background information on important or difficult topics that you will not find in other dictionaries. This Word Study Dictionary, Strong's, a Bible Dictionary and Vine's will make an awesome start for your library. A ton of information here - a monumental work.

Rating: Summary: An incredible resource for in-depth bible study. Review: I cannot overstate my gratitude to the author for this immensely useful and insightful study aid. This book is the perfect companion to your Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, because its entries are directly keyed to the Strong's numbering system. Zodhiates takes the Strong's Greek lexicon and amplifies it a hundredfold in terms of detail. An entry that might receive just a few lines of fine print in Strong's is instead expanded to whole columns or pages of discussion, with every conceivable nuance explored. Grammatical variations, derivations, synonyms and antonyms, and both lexical and scriptural cross-references are added to make this a truly invaluable study aid. In a nutshell, if you are at all serious about bible study, or think you will be or want to be, this resource will be of great assistance in your efforts. Keep in mind that this is only the new testament lexicon. The author also has a separate word study dictionary for the old testament. If you find this helpful, also check out the author's interlinear new testament or Jay Green's interlineal bible.

Rating: Summary: Tremendously Valuable Resource Review: I find this to be a wonderful supplement to my reading of the New Testament. Like nearly everyone, I don't read Greek. However, I know that the New Testament was written in that language. This book gives the King James Version in English with the Strong reference numbers above each word and the Greek for that verse in the margin. After you read in here for awhile you begin to recognize and recognize Greek words. That feels really cool. In the back of the book are several useful aids. First there are some grammatical aids and a guide to transliteration (which helps if you are going to try and sound out the Greek). Next comes the editor's own Lexical Aids to the New Testament. This is incredibly useful. If the Strong number is in boldface you can look the number up in this section and find an extended discussion of the word's meaning and use in the New Testament. Next is a Greek Concordance with every Greek word given with its English counterpart's Strong Concordance number. Three are several other helps included in this volume including the Strong Bible Dictionary. You can spend hours, days, months, and years in this book and never use it up completely. There is just so much here for the student of the New Testament who wants to go beyond a surface reading of the English translation. There isn't anything wrong with English translations. It is just that this book will give you a richer understanding the choices the editors of your favorite translation made in putting the Greek original into our tongue. I am grateful to have this on my bookshelf.

Rating: Summary: A Bible Study Resource Everyone Should Have Review: I refer to Zodhiates' lexicon of the New Testament Greek more often than any other book outside the scriptures. I quote him in my research more often than any other source outside the scriptures. He has done a remarkable job in facilitating greater understanding of the word of God. And you don't have to know Greek to use this reference book. Thanks in part to his lexicon, I have come to discover a code in the alphabetic sequence of words, especially from Biblical sources. Zodhiates' dictionary has been key in decoding this amazing phenomenon. Have you ever thought to look up word number 2000, for example, and see if it has anything to do with Y2K? ("dangerous, near to falling.") I have, and what I have discovered in asking such questions has opened up a whole new realm of prophecy. It is as astonishing if not more so than Drosnin's BIBLE CODE. Zodhiates' definitions are written clearly and thoroughly, complete with a listing of derivatives, synonyms, and antonyms. One of the definitions of the antonym Zodhiates lists for word number 666 is "(II)Of the coming or manifestation of the man of sin (2 Thess. 2:9)" (3952, p. 1124.) Zodhiates did not put these in there intentionally. But his clear writing and thoroughness certainly facilitate their discovery.
