Rating: Summary: One of the best... Review: I frequently find myself returning to this dictionary time and again, because it has so much valuable information in it and because it is very extensive in its wide range of topics (for example, ever wondered what 'Selah' means in the Psalms? - it's in here). I would highly recomend this to anyone who is seeking to better understand terms, ideas, names, places, etc... in the Bible.
Rating: Summary: Biased and Badly Dated In Its Scholarship Review: The author is severely biased towards the inerrancy of the Bible. Only material which supports the Bible's position is shown. Material from other historical sources and from archeology that contradicts the Bible is missing. At times the author merely repeats what the Bible has said in a shrill and hysterical voice, without adding any relevant or informative material to help you understand things. If the Bible says so-and-so was "lewd and licentous", Unger merely repeats that so-and-so was "lewd and licentous", without giving us any clarification and definately without questioning why the person speaking in the Bible held that opinion. The question of whether or not the speaker in the Bible might have a bias of his own is NEVER brought up. I had heard good things about this book and I was extremely disappointed. If you're a fundamentalist just looking for something to support your narrow world-view, this book is for you. But if you're interested in serious scholarship, you'll have to look somewhere else.
Rating: Summary: A concise reference Review: This is an excellent reference for anyone who is interested in careful and concise Biblical explanations and definitions. The scholarship is current, and its premise that the Bible is inerrant is certainly welcome by those who desire a dependable reference for Biblical analysis. Additionally, because of the superciliousness of the reader who gave this work a one-star rating (i.e., 'A reader from MS'), his remarks, in this reviewer's opinion, should be substantially discounted. Instead, let the merits of the work be the principal criteria as regards its true worth.
Rating: Summary: A concise reference Review: This is one of several available Bible dictionaries. I prefer it because it is up to date, comprehensive for a one-volume reference, and has some fine color and bw illustrations. Fifteen color Bible maps with indexes are included as an appendix. It does not champion any particular school of Bible interpretation, although it is obvious that the editors hold to the fundamentals of the Christian faith and the inerrancy of the Scriptures.

Rating: Summary: Unger One of the Great Bible Scholars of the 20th Century Review: Unger's greatness is in his humility. His writings seek to glorify The Lord, not himself. I also recommend his Commentary on the Old Testament, by far the best-ever written. Unger is a christian to be honored and his writings should be treasured. This book is a must-have for the grace-oriented believer.
