Summary: A terrific supplement!
Review: This book is a wonderful supplement for anyone studying Italian. For example, Ms. Farinelli's frustration over the subject of prepositions will surely evoke a laugh for anyone that has struggled to understand Italian grammar.

Summary: Diario della studentessa Jean
Review: This book should be required reading for anyone completing beginner level Italian or in intermediate level learning. Textbooks are necessary to learn the mechanics of a language, but a student can only progress by actually practicing and using a language. Unfortunately, the number of sources for students at the beginner/intermediate level are very limited. Italian newspapers and magazines are too advanced for this purpose. Learning occurs best when there is an ideal level of challenge, difficult enough to maintain interest but easy enough so as not to be overly frustrating. Diario della studentessa Jean fits this bill nicely. It is a nice feeling of satisfaction for students to first realize that they can read a short book in Italian.

Summary: Diario della studentessa Jean
Review: This charming "diary" of a student of the Italian language is a delightful tool for learning the language on an easy, conversational and every day level. I wish such a book had existed when I undertook the study a number of years ago. By becoming involved with the adventures of Jean, Roscoe and "Ralph", it is possible to follow the action without knowing every word until one sees the context in which it is used. I recommend it to all students of Italian. Grazie!

Summary: Delightful for Italian language neophytes
Review: This charming collection of personal encounters and interactions written by a mature Italian "student" gives you the flavor of the Italian experience as well as the opportunity to expand your language skills along with Jean. Perhaps it deserves 5 stars...but my own Italian isn't sharp enough to be certain! In any case, I was able, imperfectly, to navigate the language sufficiently to appreciate the stories. It's a great gift for anyone studying Italian, young or older.

Summary: Read before visiting Italy
Review: This gem of a book really helped me improve my conversational Italian. Each little story is easy-to-follow and while the experiences of Jean and Roscoe are delightful and fun --they are very practical in terms of the sentences and ideas you need to know to talk with people in every day situations. I recommend it highly if you have even a rudimentary Italian vocabulary and you want to visit Italy and actually talk with Italians.

Summary: Italian With Insight and Ease
Review: What a gem of a book. "Diario della Studentessa" is for anyone who has studied Italian or wants to study Italian, but knows that textbooks can only take you so far. These short stories are rich in detail, but easily digested. I'm reading them more than once for personal enjoyment, as well as making them part of my overall study program. So it's true -- studying a language can be fun!
