Rating: Summary: If you "know" Vernon Dent you must "know" this book Review: "The man said the door goes on the right". Well Mr. Kurson you're right on with this book. You hit the nail on the head and the head with the hammer. I fancied myself as a Stooge aficionado but this book points out how much I didn't know. The book is so tightly packed with details we may have to blast! I give this book 10 eye pokes.
Rating: Summary: The best Stooges book since....since forever!!!!!! Review: As a novice Stooge fan I didn't know what to expect. I was blown away. I always thought "Mashed potato muscles" was a term of endearment meant only for me. Now knowing that Moe Howard made it up I'm proud! Excellent book Mr.Kurson.
Rating: Summary: For Duty and Humanity! Review: As a very knowlegeable Three Stooges fan, I can honestly say that I've read almost every book available relating to the boys. Having read The Three Stooges Encyclopedia, I can also tell you, in my opinion, it is the best one out there.Jay Leno once said "half the world loves the Stooges and the other half wonders why". Mr. Kurson does a wonderful job of bringing the latter side closer with his painstaking research and understanding of what made the Stooges funny. Being the Stoogefile that I am, I loved parts 2-4 which contained the most complete listing of every possible name of anything or anyone in every Stooge short. It was a great reminder of why I love them as much as I do. For the non-Stooge fan (yes I know- some do exist!), if they were to read part 5 (which gave a detailed synopsis of every Stooge short ever made) then I'm sure they would be a Stooge fan now! To the two narrow-minded critics of this book, please tell me where else you can find the words to the Maharaja routine or the words to Ze Lollipop song? Before you critique any other books, I suggest you ask yourselves one simple question; "What is the author trying to accomplish?" What Mr. Kurson was able to accomplish through his seemingly painstaking (but enjoyable) research , was what made the Three Stooges the geniuses they were- it was their attention to detail. It's the names of their employers (Mr. A. Mouser, among others). It's where they worked (The Los Arms Hospital). Or even where they relaxed (The Hotel Coste Plente). Any book can tell you about their history, from the days with Ted Healy and the Annette Kellerman Diving Girls to when their comeback occurred. However, no other book illustrates so vividly their verbal humour (and attention to the little written details) that made them what they were. For that Mr. Kurson, I'm sure you made the boys proud. And as an author, you're the most intellgent imbecile who's every written a book about the Stooges. Excelsior!
Rating: Summary: Disappointment Review: Disappointing Stooges book wastes too much time on what lines they used in movies and not enough time on the Stooges. Best part of book is the section dealing with the supporting players in the Stooges shorts.
Rating: Summary: WOWEE ZOWIE PUDDIN'HEAD NYUK DIDDLY NYUK WOOP WOOP BUY THIS! Review: First of all I need to address the mopes who hate this book. What is ya ignirint? It's so obvious to me that this author has a wonderful love affair with The 3 Stooges. This makes the book all the better. I haven't stopped laughing since I got it. Listen....Did you hear me laughing all the way from England?? In my opinion I have the first and last word in reference material on the 3 Stooges. Mr. Kurson You are truly a good fan. The stooges would be proud..I know I am.. I Have a suggestion for your next book. I love the Bay City Rollers and I happen to know Woody loves Curly!!! Just an Idea.. Marin
Rating: Summary: Howard Stern's favorite book Review: Howard Stern was talking about how great this book is yesterday. Larry used to be Louis and played the violin and Curly was always goofing because he was a lady's man and was insecure about his weight This book is full of stuff like that, things that even the biggest Stooge fan probably didn't know. And it's a great source for stuff you do know but forgot. It's so funny, too.
Rating: Summary: A great book for guys - and I laughed, too! Review: I bought this book for my husband, who is a HUGE Three Stooges fan. He laughed for three days and never put it down. Now he goes around doing all the Stooges routines because now he's got all the words from this book, a habit I hope will soon subside!. I like the Stooges mostly because my husband likes them, but I read some of this book and I've got to admit, there's some very funny stuff inside (My favorite part is the list of all the insults Moe called his pals; "Hot Airedale"!) I don't have lots of experience with film books, but this one seems great because it focuses on the humor.
Rating: Summary: PAPERBACK EVEN FUNNIER THAT THE HARD COVER Review: I can't put this book down.(mainly because I have no arms)But seriously folks this is the bible for stooge fans. I take in the bathroom with me often leaving my legs numb. BUY THIS BOOK
Rating: Summary: A Rehash of Lines and Names. Not Much Here. Review: I completely agree with other reviewers: that all one had to do is watch the Stooges shorts and write down the funny lines and names and voila you have Three Stooges Encyclopedia. I give it two stars just because the section on supporting actors is interesting. Otherwise the rest is just a rehash of lines and names. The bios are even disappointing, it has stuff like, "We all want to be Curly." I would advise to look elsewhere if you want a book on THE THREE STOOGES.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for any Stooge fan Review: I guess I'll disclose right up top that the author is my big brother. But don't let that get in the way. As a painstaking catalog of every eyepoke, tortured pun, hairpull, and ill-fated romance (with, for example, Flo, Mary and Shirley) the Stooges ever had, this book is, of course, hilarious. But it's not JUST hilarious. It's also the fond remembrance of a true fan, someone whose enthusiasm for his subjects is infectious, and whose writing style flows so naturally that it's easy to forget that said subjects became famous for nearly killing one another.
